ignition ie plug leads, distributer, coil, CRC will help, a common mod I think is a latex glove over the distributer to seal it.

Check your dizzy (take off cap and check condition of points and if theres any moisture in there, corrosion on the points will be a little tell tale sign) Doubt it will be HT leads  crc will not help  and DO NOT put a glove on it as it will condensate and escalate the problem  Also check all wires and connections around dizzy and coil (coil may possibly be faulty) or there may be a half broken wire. Connections are a killer, take off give a quick sand and put back on. Let us know how you get on with that

Mine used to do the exact same thing and I agree with MrO, don't use CRC it doesn't work and corrodes the leads, so I am told. Don't rubber glove it, it only works for a little while abd then just pisses you off. The dizzy is in a stupid place, relocate and put it in a snaplock box with a breather. If you are going to use a spray use lanolin spray, about the same cost as CRC but is sticky and water prove. As for the reving, again mine used to do it as well, never figured out what the cause was before Tara got his hands on it

When I had the old Series 2 Rover i used "Softseal" Its almost like a spray on grease. Worked really well for me and cause it doesn't set its still easy to take the Dissy cap off.

I used silicon grease on my surf just a bead around the cap and then a good amount on all the leads. I also but a breather on the dissy. after i did this i could run the motor under water.
