its amazing how much junk acculates in a garage.

Same weather different location I am affraid.

And its not Junk it's stored treasure. Go on I dare you to throw some out and then days after you will find you need it and it will cost a fortune to replace (always happens to me that way).

Me 'n Siwsie wall papered the lounge.
At last, not living in demolition yard, Had scraped all the 80 year old shellac off the rimu fireplace, doorways, bay window and skirtings. refinished in Polyurethane, looks like an oiled finish.

Now we are relaxing and admiring our handiwork!!!

Beers tastes GOOOOOOD!!!!

I thought non-4x4 related goings on went elsewhere.

Re-affixed the soft-top to the header, seeing as how I hadnt done it right first time and it pooled water each time it rained. Generally got the wagon ready for a battle in the now rugged Thommos for tomorrow, but thanks to Zillas heads up tonight about it being under MPDC review tomorrow, the trip is aborted.

So tomorrow, ill give it a clean and get Woodhills clay off from last weekend.

Just got back from weekend in CHCH, having taken No.2 scud down to finish running in the new engine.

Couldn't believe how thirsty it was, it sucked gas like a V8 and didn't pull that well. I've obviously got something wrong in the setup as it burned 12litres/100kms!!!!

It's a 1600 3-speed auto escudo, running 30" rubber, air filter isn't blocked, timing was set to 8deg BTDC and I was only cruising at about 90km/h, with regular full-throttle bursts from about 80 to 100km/h.

What have I done wrong? Any bright ideas, anyone?

You must mean a V4 coz the best I've ever had out of my V8 on the road is 22litres/100kms

Maybe your engines still pretty tight if you rebored it?

10.8l per 100km in our 2000 5.7l vt on the open road.

i would be so happy if i only used that much fuel in my 4wd
my diesel g wagen used about 16l/100km lol sad i know
will be interesting to see what it is like with a petrol engine probably worse

oh yeah my thing for the weekend last night i bought another car as a engine donor for the g it is a mercedes benz M110 engine a 2.8l dohc inline 6 about 175 hp should make a bit of difference to it's ability

Thanks, I thought it might still be a bit tight, but I didn't expect it to be quite that thirsty. When I drive the other scud in the same manner, with a much older engine, manual trans' and running 31" rubber, I get 10l/100kms.

I'll double check the timing, disconnect the O2 sensor and try again.

the auto would cause worse fuel economy than the manual wouldnt it? is everything in the auto in good nick? if the auto is a bit sloppy it cauld easily make it suck more gas than normal.

is the gearing different between the two?

Yeah, but it shouldn't be that bad. the smaller 30" rubber should make up for the slightly lower higher geared diff's, and the auto shouldnt be 20% worse, I wouldn't have thought.

Perhaps the answer is just a much bigger fuel tank, on the way down I couldn't get further than Cheviot on a brim-full tank from Nelson!
