Henry, I have just gone through all this bullshit with the crappy hiatchi alternators for safaris. They won't be cheap second hand, nor will it be reliable if you get it rebuilt. Buy a new one if you really want to stick with the current set up. I went for one with a bigger amperage off of a nissan truck, FD I think. If you give Kaiapoi repowers a call, talk with Nathan, they have one on the bench, tell them Al sent you out. I even looked at grafting a toyota nippodenso one on as the are heaps more reliable the hiatichi. None of them match or can be bastardised to fit, shame really, so I went for the next best option, bigger amps.

Hi, can any one tell me wich of the two oil lines on the back of the alternator is the feed & drain? Is the small one the feed and the larger one the drain?
Cheers.
