Hi Mark ,maybee i should of used other words but this is a family forum,I think what really F###ks me off is its proberly someone whos involved with 4wds that is either stealing them or recieving the parts,,they are being targeted and not for a joy ride, these parts dont come up for sale very often on T/ME or the T&Exchange i know cause im always checking so they must be being sold to people we proberly know ..

Your dead right ,It makes me wonder what we have to do to keep our gear as my mate was lucky ,the bas##ards broke the window of a truck parked in the driveway ,shifted it ,broke into a locked garage even removing bars bolted to the windows but couldnt get the main door open ,He was so lucky"..

Time for some chains anchored into the concrete on the garage floor to wrap around the diffs. Unless they are carrying a gas axe, good luck

Probably also a good idea to remember that anyone can browse through this website.

I cannot recall details but as a relative new-comer on this site - May 2008 - was surprised to note some things below...

I noticed a few number plates still visible on pictures folk post. Don't know whether the powers that look after the licencing database have tightened it up yet but you used to be able to put in a number plate to figure addresses etc.

Some folk have their names and phone numbers on their signatures.

If these vehicles are being stolen to order for parts etc then also apparent is a list of modifications people have done on their vehicles is sometimes posted in a signature or in a thread so anyone can read like a list of what is what and then what it is all worth if they're looking to steal on order. Avatars with pictures of vehicles can also offer a few clues as to modifications.

Unfortunately it has to be all about making our vehicles harder and harder to steal, and I figure a part of this should also be making it more difficult to know what it is that you have... it is a bastard fact of life that their are people out there making a living from stealing from others and advertising attracts, whether that advertising was intentional or otherwise... my 2 cents...

The Farking B@$#!*ds are welcome anytime onto my property to meet the teeth of my dog who considers my truck her property.

Immobilize it , chain it down and electrify the steering wheel  There is not alot more you can do short of camping out with a Shotgun.

Monstr - have the ones that have gone/been attempted all been highend/modified? If so can you PM me the ruff details (owners name, reg if you have it approx date) If they are all modded expensive trucks I may be able to get someone in the Auckland car squad to take a look at it if a pattern of offending can be shown. (4 50K trucks in a couple of months should do it).

I know it may seem like a long shot given the publicity around hw little cops do but I can only try and when you add it up it is significant offending. Most cops wont work out the value and given the number of cars taken in auckland in a week a pattern like this is easily missed.

People need to keep their ears to the ground to. We live in a small country and they are targeting a sport with a limited audience. If they are being parted out localish then the whispers of cheap gear will come. People can feel free to PM me anything the may hear. Not really my job to chase offending in other parts of the country but given I'm involved in the sport I'll take it on and see if I can't get something pushed along.

a good immobilizer is a fuel cut switch somewhere hidden to kill the electric fuel pump. just turn it off when your parking somewhere dodgy and they wont get that far. In diesels have either a 2nd cable for the engine stopper or if its an electric solenoid have a hidden switch. So it wouldnt get to far but i guess they could tow it but what a mish!

how suitable is an immobilazer and/or alarm fitted to an offroad truck?, my only thought is if it gets wet you are stuck in the bush...

another thought i had was a wheel clamp when in your drive/garage, or one of those gearstick locks? (but if you put the tcase in N then it can be moved???

How about ejector seat trigerred ten seconds after engine start (unless correct pin entered)!!! Would be fun!

These kinds of crime go up normally whenever economy turns south. Very sad indeed because its not always the parts but personal time and effort in sourcing them and then often installing them that can't be recovered (even throug insurance).

Exactly.
On some forums you get a complete list of the vehicle, every modification, contact details and the suburb they live in.

Not a good idea.

Even had the GPS on the dash with multimeter, and a heap of tools in the back seat

my 'junk yard dog' as the mrs calls it would give them a good run

problem is with a winchtruck they are meant to go allmost anywhere the winch on the front could be used to get it out of your lock up and what about those dickheads a while back that put the winch rope over the truck and turned the winch on

there is a product called black hawk. it cost around $900 and has a gps monorting device. there are lots of different plans you can get where you can look on the internet and it will tell you exactly where your car is and where it has stopped in the last few days. you activate it all via text. you can have it off and then turn it on to see where your car is when it is stolen. it can also have an imobiliser in it so that when it is stolen you can find out where it is tell the cops and imobilise it then it will hopefully stay there until the cops arive.
there are lots of different opptions the top model will tell you when your car alarm has been activated. It can even text you if your battery is disconnected. For an expensive vehicle there is no better system.

Oh and it is a new zealand product, support the locals

Pete

yeah, but how will it survive being continually immersed in mud, water and being thrown around on the trail. Went down the alarm route opnce only to discover they couldn't handle the terrain it went into with the truck.

m-series

The M-Series devices are designed for the rough environment. Completely waterproof and made from strong thick PVC plastic, these devices are prefect for Motorbikes, Marine or anywhere that getting a beating. Measures only 70mm long. No external antennas or aerials for thiefs to cut. Simple to install.

It's only good if they aren't stealing your truck to joy-ride or to strip for parts.
GPS also won't work inside buildings or shipping containers. Probably not even if they load it into a covered truck or trailer.

IMO the best prevention is don't advertise your toys. Don't post pictures on the net where your number plate is readable and above all, buy something that no-one wants to steal.
