I recon 98 octane. By the time it get's in our tank it's probably only 91 anyway. God knows what 95 or 91 octane really is by the time it gets in our tanks. I recon NZ is a dumping ground for bad fuel. But hey, that's just what i recon.

Good to see you've seen the light and brought a 40 Coxsy. :D

my old 40 engine 2F would burn nearly anything i put in it with out a noticable power change. 91 or 95 couldnt tell the difference. it even ran ok on a 70/30 mix of 91 and diesel which i scored 80lt of for free.

I can't tell the difference between 91 & 98 in mine either - although it runs mostly on LPG. The standard valve seats aren't hardened though - so worth chucking some Moreys upper cylinder lubricant (or diesel) in tank occasionally. The good part of an old carby tractor engine - it'll run on just about anything - just lots of it!

Yip,same here. I run mine on 91 when the lpg runs out. Tuned for lpg, still runs really well on the 91 though.

Like most posts above say... An old booklet I was going to chuck out at work says all 2F, FJ40, 45 and 55 from 1977 can use unleaded 91 octane. Pre 1977 - a Toyota bulletin I have a copy of says use 91 plus that valvemaster additive.

Lucky thing you got good neighbours!
