Rover V8 + Hilux gearbox

Post by NJV6 »

Hi,
seems there have been a fair few Rover motors gone into Hilux's over the years - what adapters have people used to mate the V8 up to the G52 or W56 bellhousings?

And does anyone know wherewe might find one?

hi glen brian howart made mine, hilux bell housing with the front cut off and a plate made up to match the rover motor, using rangie flywheel pressure and clutch plate with the spline cut out of the clutch plate and replaced with a hilux one, heaps of torque with the rangie flywheel

hi there is anyone out there able to help me?

i am currently trying to build a 93 hilux running a 3.5 rover v8
and want to keed the toyota 5speed 4x4 gearbox

what clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and fork have others used?
and also how was the engine mated to the gearbox?
i have read that brian howart has made a few bell housings up for people by using the hilux and rover bellhousing, how much did it cost to get him to make it up?

as this is just going to be a toy/bush truck i dont want to go spending pay packet after pay packet on it as it wont be certed for the road or anything of the sort.

any help would be much apprieciated!
thanks taurin

we're part way through doing a conversion on Possum's boys hilux, I dont really know anything about lux or rover stuff but I'm learning shit as we go, I dont even know what series gearbox we've got but I know its not the bigger stronger type? We came accross a Graham Berry bellhousing, it wasnt setup for a lux box and had already been modified a few times before we got it, we got Brian to re-machine the face and redrill it for the lux box. He turned up a bush to go into the end of the crank for the input shaft, we used a rangie pressure plate, 4 cyclinder diesel cruiser clutch plate (same spline as the lux input shaft and right diameter for the rangie pressure plate), reused the lux clutch fork with a hiace release bearing, dont know what hiace coz I didnt sort out the bearing. We did a dummy run bolting the engine and gearbox up in the truck and it all seemed to fit and we put it all back in again with the clutch a couple of weeks ago and it all seems ok so far, no engine mounts or exhausts yet. Theres no room for the radiator so that will be rear mounted behind the cab and the standard exhaust manifolds are a little wider than the chassis rails but it looks like we will be able to sneak some pipes up to the flanges and I think we are going to have to shift the track bar on the front diff to the side a little bit coz the corner of the sump or something was going to hit it?
