6th/7th September
Took truck No.1 for a warrant, but got flicked back on the big tyres. Not ready to cert' it yet as there's still plenty of work to do, so its on with the silly little road-wheels off the 5-Door and in for a re-check.
Was going for a snow trip into the rainbow on Sunday, but its closed through there due to avalanche blockage/damage, so probably a jaunt up the Porika and hope to find some snow at the top.

I got the 33s mentioned to me last WOF but the guy did pass them as he considered it within the realm of safety for the type of vehicle. He's a pretty reasonable guy.
WOF ran out 2 days ago so will be going in for another today, will see how it goes. Could put my 31" road tyres on it I guess but even they are technically oversize apparently. Will have to do the 6 monthly brake adjustment too.

have to admit wof testers can be so anal. i,ve taken my 4x4,s in and they complain about oversize wheels ect. and its still only there opinion. i,ve even asked to save me time changing all the wheels and coming back can u pass it and give me the sticker will put it on at home. got no joy so have changed to a garage with sense, they get all my trade work and look after me

NO one remembers who comes 2nd....!
Re: 6th/7th September
When I went Friday for the WOF it went straight through (just need to adjust the bearings) an no comment at all about tyres.

Went for a cruise yesterday in Aotea even though the gates were locked and access to the block was dennied still I found a small dirt path that lead from the back entrance. put my foot down and enjoyed every dirty second of just cruising twice. lunchtime and at sunset. Am keen to join some suffaris with anyone. I had passengers that were freaked out but said they had a good time.

I dont know if you caught up with the other thread on here but they have closed Aotea for a month or so while WRC have concerns of sediment run off or something like that so you dont want to be sneaking in there while its closed or we'll end up compromising the relationship and future access. Keep an eye on the forum coz the welly guys are doing trips (mostly rallywoods) most weekends and your welcome to come along

spent most of the weekend puting a 350 in the hilux after a cpl of weeks ago turning my 327 into a v7 lol
Re: 6th/7th September
got liquids in everything motor related, finished olf wiring loom for megasquirt computer, and turned key, was promising when fuel pump ran but no go, was unable to get my laptop to talk to the engine computer, so got Brian out, his laptop talked happily and discovered a bad connection at the TPS and a mis connection from the tacho signal, once that was sorted we kicked it in the guts and it runs finally, then discovered that i had managed to unbalance the motor by removing the holden flexi plate, so it sound like a fergy tractor, now half way thru putting the flexi back in but need to do a couple of mods.
also weighed the truck with race scales am 100 kgs heavier in the front, so once we get in and the rest of the truck is together we should be pretty well balanced
had fibre glass guy around to look at building the body and tub, so for the next two weeks it looks like i am no longer engineer but a fibre glass tech
so the end is finally in sight.

So what happened with Curlys Truck. Did it get done
Re: 6th/7th September
Built a deck, lots of jobs around the house and looked at the truck before dumping a whole lot of extra junk from it. And then the weekend went well as I found a set of ali rims for 100 bucks all up. Nice and light 15x7's so my radical wide track just got narrower but it does mean less trimming to get the 31's under it with the std offset (not to mention the benefits of the lighter wheels). SCORE one for the POS, now I have got to sort the rest of the stuff for it, but I am making progres slowly.

Re: 6th/7th September
Managed to get a trip up to Mount Murchison with four trucks, but didn't quite make it to the top (snow too deep). Had a blast getting as far as we did though, including about a dozen stops to chainsaw blockages out of the way. Obviously no-one's been up there since the big dump of snow.
Lockers and/or LSDs would have made a big difference to how well we got through the snow, but it was interesting how much better the 31" Adventuros with good tread went, compared to the 30" well-worn Yokohamas on the back of the auto. I think the slipper will have to go into the auto to try to make up some of the difference.
Went over the Porika on the way back and, for a change, no damage done to any of the gear (I don't count scratches and ripping off snorkel-hats). Doubly good was that we had a newbie with us, first time 4WDing. He seemed to enjoy it and would like to come out again so we can't have seemed too stupid, despite the snow-fights on Mount Murch'.
