Post by Clint »

Team Performance Mechanical & Engineering got on the road from Taupo yesterday:

We made it to Raana's place with no probs & promptly got into some clutch changing, fishing & beer drinking:

We got out of there this morning OK:

The team made it to Whangarei no worries, we're all scrutinised now & raring to go for tomorrow :D

Cheers

Saturday started with a winch through a ditch on S2:

No worries there, so it was off to S1:

I think Klem set one of the faster times through there.

Stage 4 turned a bit pear shaped when the new sheath on the main rope broke & jammed up, so the boys had to use the electric backup, but they got through without losing too much time:

Image

Stage 3 was also a bit arse as the truck blew a front hub & Mike had to do some serious amounts of running to winch through a lot of the stage.

Image

55 got through 1 more stage, then the last stage was canned, unfortunately not before Raana had bent up his steering on a stump. Another steering rod was located & installed before the night stage:

Klem set another good time on the night stage, collecting a few shrubbery souvenirs on the way:

Then it was time for a washdown & a few beers.

More later

Hmmm... bit of a different story from prizegiving.

Anyway, we were up & into it on Sunday after fitting a new radius arm bush to Raana's truck in AB's yard. The Northlanders had a great site on the edge of town with some tough stages & good viewing for spectators. The first stage was a bit average but then the boys laid down a real sharp time in the 2nd one.

Image

The last stage got a bit messed up when Klem decided that the course would be far better without a certain tree so he ran the bastard over. Unfortunately this broke the front skid plate, then on the next winch the rope was cut by the sharp edge. The guys had to thread the rope back through on the stage to carry on. Then it was back through the bog:

Image

The shortened rope meant that the boys didn't have the length to reach a tree so it was out with the ground anchor, but they got through the stage without DNFing.

Image

Then it was beer-washdown-beer-prizegiving-beer-dinner-beer...

Top marks to Darin & the Northland crew for laying on a great event & congrats to the winners & placegetters, whoever they may be :D
