Had a request from Fweddy whether we can help him out, he is involved in organising a youth group event. Fweddy is from hillbilly country....., this is what he is looking at.....

We'd be looking at a start of about 8:30ish (depart Otaki) and being back by about 5-5:30ish on Sunday 5 Oct.

What are some of the possibilities you can foresee working?

I was sort of thinking of some riding and some watching more extreme type stuff. It seems to always be a buzz to watch different vehicles attempt a challenge (mud hole etc) and see who can make it and who can't. We could also maybe set up a bit of a challenge (maybe orienteering type thing) but I don't know the layout and possibilities there.

Let me know the sort of things that might be possible.

Its Christian based and basically a focus on clean fun and constructive social development - a bit of direction for young people.

Normally on the Sunday we do some activity. What do you think of the potential of doing a Rallywoods type day with a group of responsible 4x4ers that could give rides and flick some mud, and even include some educational type input?

We have a trash Marks place (Beer night) the night before, perhaps we can hold it up there and then dispose of the evidence in the morning.....,

Maybe Mitch and Tu and maybe others are keen to give people rides in ther awsum trucks :D

Are people keen to help out etc? (can I get a show of support etc).

AOTEA may still be closed....

Also Rallywoods may be boring for you Mitch but you need to remember we are showing people round who have never been there or maybe not been in a 4wd in the mud.

Hi Guys

Yeah looking at about 30-40

Was thinking something along the lines of a bit of drive/short trek with passengers and perhaps a bit of a demo of more 'hard out' driving - bit of 'which truck can get through the hazard' type thing. Not sure if we could also set up a bit of a game in it too, perhaps a 'treasure hunt' with clues at different locations to drive to - just thoughts at this stage. Its hard for a hillbilly to get their head around you red neck's playground having not been in them before and knowing the potential or lack of.

Of course just for the day we will have to err on the side of safety due to the type of thing it is with responsibility of a bunch of young ones etc.

We will be based at Otaki but can travel to set destination to meet up

so do we take them round the tracks and put some easily found letters on plastic boards or something? maybe give them a map and directions and they have to navigate?, maybe make them walk down a couple of tracks?. and take them thru a few mudholes for those keen (need some open trucks here)

Thanks Sadaam. I really enjoy this part of my work. Its the organising that is the challenge that's why I've dumped a portion of it onto you lot :)

Ideas are sounding good even though they don't all mean lots to me. Throw some more ideas in and then we can pull it into some sort of structure.

Hey Fweddy, how many kids are you looking at, what sort of ages are they and are they um... I think the term nowdays is challenged or are they a normal bunch of kids?

Do they come with their own grown-ups to ensure their safety and do head counts and all that sort of stuff?

Yeah as Curly reminded, 30-40 approx

Age range of 12-early 20s - mainly teens

All young people are a challenge :) but this bunch are a pretty good lot. We normally have one young chap who finds life a little bumper than the average Joe. But apart from that its your general fairly-good-background bunch: The squealing girls in pink, the young upstart fella, the shy guy who needs coaxing, the yapper, the tattler, the tom boy, the flirt, the professor, the clown, the troublemaker, and the inevitable 'clicks'. But that is what makes it all interesting and over all the type of people are pretty good.

They do come with their own package deal of grown-ups, about 6 of the things, who will keep an eye out for them and join in.

Sod off Curly ..... this was under the orienteering bit, and I was serious....if the responsible adults there want them to burn off energy then there is that option...... perhaps you should make some more constructive comments....

As for an Aka's trip them (A) We need vehicles and seats and (b) thats a big convoy to push thru the Aka's....... so thats 40 kids + 6 adults

would it not be easier to cart them through akas instead of narrow rallywoods tracks, unless you had something else in mind, like quick trips in capable trucks from the bazebo and back every half an hour or so.

this all depends on what trucks you get etc etc etc

I can only offer a shiny with maybe 3 or 4 seats (if finances allow)

so maybe its time for folks to put up what they can offer and what they're prepared to do.
