Hi
My 91 surf sits low in the rear end and when towing even moderate loaded trailers the front comes up heaps. while travelling stability is ok, no swaying. But... when breaking and wanting to turn, some caution is required. Any ideas. I think my wagon has a 50mm lift already.
The 2.8 non turbo is so quick up to 90kmh you could eat your lunch before getting there. Other than farm tractors you don't want to attempt to pass anything. Still a useful wagon though. Looks like a useful forum, only just came across it.

I had asimilar problem with my surf. Is yourscoil or leaf in the back? mine had not been raised but the springs had been replaced at some stage. although this had been done they were shagged. i replaced them withheavy duty springs (+50mm and alot stiffer) and also fitted longer shocks. this seemedto fix the problem.although unloaded now it can be a bit hard. Still articulates though.
I got my springs made by bellamy and east spring makers in chch.
and i know what you mean about the blistering pace of the diesels lol :roll: . seems fast compared to the tractors i normally drive :oops:

What about some of those airbag thingies they fit inside the coil spring, deflate when not in use inflate when they are needed.

Replace the rear coils and adjust the torsion bars up front to suit.

OR,

if you wanna be really cheep, you could stick with the existing rear springs and back the torsion bars off in the front to lower the front end to match the rear.

OR,

You could stick again with what ever you have in the rear, add some coil spacers and adjust the front to suit.

OR,

You could take the rear springs out and get them reset to what ever height you like throw them back in and leave the front end alone.

Surfs sit slightly lower in the front than the rear from the factory, improves road handling apparently :lol:

Mine is always higher at the front. It has coils alround and I may be wrong about the 2" lift. It just seems high.
raised cups for the coils sounds like a reasonable idea. Any WOF hassles with that adjustment?. should post a pic that would give you a better idea

If you fit coil spacers you should be ok - never heard of anyone getting turfed out of a WOF for them as long as they fully seat in the spring seat and the spring fully seats on them.

50mm raised coils for those push the bum WAY in the air, so you'd probably know if you had them - that would probably fix the problem, although I have access to a load-bearing set it you continuously carry heavy loads and tow.

Don't reset em... the only real cheap option I would go for is lower the front torsion bars to match the rear.

Unless you have done a solid axle swap, you will have coils in the rear and torsion bars in the front on a 91 Surf.

Shows you how much I know about the surf. No coils at front. I need to have a good look and suss out the torsion suspension set up. Its not like the old english hydro elastic suspension lol? Two other issues I have are starter wizzes and doesent engage 1 in 8 times, thats probably just the solenoid not throwing hard enough I guess. No aircon compressor engagement when I put the switch on and the engine revs don't drop to indicate compressor running. One guy said if its low on gas a sensor detects that and stops the compressor engaging. Can anyone confirm that.

yup i can confirm that about the ac. mine did the same. just an eletricsensor on the pipes. as soon as re gased it'l kick in again but if it hasnt been run for a while the seals may be dry
