Well ended up replacing the rotor in my alternator, as it gave up the ghost this morning on the way to work.

Interesting drive, to say the least, over the Haywood hills with no brakes

Couldn't find much information on the net about repairing the alternator, when the vacuum pump stops working. Most people said that it was a replacement job as the alternator cannot be repaired.
However the rotor can be replaced, so only $220 for new rotor, bearings and seals.
Ready for Costa Plenty now

Hopefully I will finish the small list of jobs I set myself for last Sunday (actually all of the list as I did Feck all that day). Checked new ali rims and they look too small for what I want so will flick them off (bugger).

plan is to, drop one pig off at the package holiday place (well they come back packaged, not sure it is much of a holiday though), pickup two new ones Sunday afternoon. Fix the f^%^%& leaking trough and lock the fat sheep (ok gravid sheep) in the top paddock so we can check the lambs a bit easier when they finally arrive.

More importantly investigate the electrical gremlins that the FJ40 is displaying and hopefully not have to rewire too much - dodgy fuse block needs looked at. Be prepared for a call for help on the forums from me soon.

Picked up my rebuilt motor today

Just waiting on the modified sump to be done then it can all go back in ready for fweddys youth group day

i think you,ve been short changed there haynzy , some dirty bugger has stolen the other two cyclinders

Hey I see you've cleaned the workshop up... Hope the engine goes in no hassle for you. Glad to hear the engine guys were on time for you.

yeah, i asked haynzy to come 4wd last nite, he said something bout it not yet ready lol!! i have a list a mile long of little things to sort b4 tomoorow morning, this is going to be my 1st trip since the last costa trip

added some steel to the front, not sure on the lenght yet, but have a 9" grinder things can be changed

finished off moulds for transmission tunnel, bonnet, and dash panels, fibreglassed the lot today, just got the foot wells and front mud guards to go, and finish the wiring and tune the bugger, only 3 wks to go

Whacked in HD tie rod, replaced both front brake caliper pistons and pads.

put grease in everywhere today and had a look at fixing the last couple of things for cert man, but don't know what he was on about cause my dad and i couldn't see what was wrong with 'em. might have to get some more clarification... And changed the alternator so it lives again and then the battery wouldn't hold charge so threw another one i had in the garage in there and will see how that goes.

got the motor all bolted up to the gearbox, and back on the hole (temp) with new engine mounts, big thanks to chopper and h20. finished bout 430am and got up for work at 7am

Bought a panel beaters kit today (hammers and dollies) from supa chump and had a go at straightening a few panels (not too bad for a ruff bastard), they will never look like new but at least they fit now. Just need a ruff up and painting to stop the rust (so do the cut bits of steel also)

Cut front guards to fit bigger rubber on the vitara (and the ones on it now for that matter). Look okay but now I think the firewall and headlight surrounds might need a hit with a hammer. Can I cut the headlight surrounds or should I just bash on them a bit to get the clearance I need (no lights are ever going back into the spaces as this will be a trials toy (remember so pretty or warrantable aren't a problem).

The rear guards I might have a go at tomorrow. anyone got hints for the rears? Pics would be good. Looks like the rear inners come down to the edge of the outer skin so I will have to seperate the inner from the outer (is that how others have done it)and then bend and rivet and f glass (I hate that stuff).

had a primo day up the bush, went passenger in mates 413 with all the air lockers and stuff,first time in about 3 years not driven but enjoyed being winch bitch and tree mover.

Got motivated today after visiting Rex and dropping off some wheels and looking over his wagon (the rear wheel arches mainly).

Decided bugger it just get in there and do it. Well first my cut off blade was too small to reach (needed another one but forgot) the second skin of the inner panel. So I got my jigsaw out. Bugger no metal blades, no worries I had an old wood one and it worked for a while, then broke. Picked up all the tools and put them away. put the old bits (disk and what was left of the jigsaw blade) in my work boots to remind me to see if we have any "spares" they dont want laying around.

Might just ask if I can borrow the nibbler and do it that way (less sparks around the fuel tank that way). I guess that pretty much buggered any plans I had for the POS this afternoon, but hey I got some stuff done.

sat went and had a look at the deadwood site,sunday went into the akkas for a drive and had a blast .ditched the kids and me and the wife went .first time since bc (before children 8years)cruzy am then hit a couple of better tracks in the arvo .lucky i thru my chainsaw in ,had to clear about 6-8 trees that had come down in the wind .bit of a lateish finish .got home about 7.20 after picking up 3 grumpy children .oh well there is always a price to pay for a good day out

Went up the Selwyn on Sat arvo. Was a wee bit interesting with only one wagon. Can't wait till it drops a bit more.

made a start on my engine mount brackets for the replacement engine on the g was hoping to have them tacked together ready to be welded by someone who knows what they are doing but didn't quite get that far
had another project that was more important but not 4wd related so will post it in the other thread

Managed to wrap exhaust around axle and landed on rock hard enough to crack gas tank even with 4mm steel plating over it Great day out!

So anyone have Escudo mid-90's injected 1600 3dr gas tank in Wellington?

And what/where's cheapest and best way to get new exhaust sorted? Only from behind muffler as far as I can tell.

changed my starter motor tonite not a fun thing to do

i got a new front nudge type bar made for the cruiser, and fitted it on sat just in time for the costa trip and a new rear locker was installed during the week
