While on the motorway, heading home,in my 60 surf, going up the bombays, my brakes began to slowly engage, within the space of about 3 mins they fully looked up on me, got out, smoke was pissing out from both fronts, rotors were glowing red, then i guess everything melted, cause then suddenly they released, as i was sitting on the bank, wondering W.T.F, and she began to roll backwards. managed to drive home. Question is, anyone know why this may have happened, i would understand if was just one side, faulty calliper or sumin, but both the fronts to both slowly lock up at even pressure?????
so im going to purchase new rotors, pads, master cylinder check callipers, but whats to say it wont happen again??? gime your thoughts???

Could it be a fault in the brake booster (failed on the driver side and the vaccum pulled the diapham and this pushed on the MC) and it engaged the brakes itself?

Buggered if I know really , that's just a guess.

Coulda been a complete lack of tactile sensation in the underside of one of your feet.

Often see people "riding the clutch"
no reason why some shouldnt 'ride the brake" is there?

I was thinking that too

maybe they didn't like what they saw and then proceeded to stop and make him get out of the wagon , before they released and trying rolling away from him

Dunno, my old man did weird things with his first Auto, would throw both feet at the brake pedal as he stoped thinking he was pushing the clutch in,

WHY shouldnt YOU ride the brake in a manual?
people DO do weird stuff you know.......

You should also bleed the brakes, it could be water in the fluid boiling off (turning into steam and creating pressure) from heat and once you stoped for a bit came back to normal. For both of them to be affected I would suggest start with a full bleed of the system from the back left then back right anf then front left and right.

Also after getting the disks that hot they may be slightly warped, or may have become warped to create the heat but it seems odd to be both, How old is the brake fluid in the system? it does deteriorate

Well done mate!!

You are the best recipient of a hard time we have had for ages.

most run around in ever-diminishing circles when they are teased.

Then, unfortunately, they disappear up their own arseholes and come out looking like Skid, bald on top, hair on his face and a shitty liver.....
