Nick's Hilux

Post by nstacey »

I picked this up yesterday.

Image

Seems pretty good mechanically, 1985, got the 2.4 diesel and 5spd manual. Ripped up the carpet this morning and found a bit of rust

Image

Image

I'm going to sand and rust kill the passenger's side and will have my uncle weld a patch on the drivers side next weekend.

I've got a 9000lb Runva Winch to fit and some tow hooks.

Also I need to address the wheels and tyres. It has some crappy looking 31/10.5 At's on the front and some 265/75 HT's on the back.

The front wheels have 8mm or so spacers obviously to clear the disc calliper.

Image

Image

These look pretty dodgy so will go for new wheels and I need some muds. What offset rims will I want to clear the discs on a solid axle Hilux? Also was thinking of 32/11.5/15 Goodyear MTRs for the tyres. I think they may fit without a lift. Anyone got any other recommendations? The Hilux is going to only be used for offroading, trips to the tip etc not a DD.

Hey there, Ive got Lux that had the similar rusty floor issues, The prob was the air vent below the windscreen had been blocked with leafs and dirt etc and had caused water to sit in there over the years so aswell as the floors being a little rusty I allso had a few holes in the firewall area to be repaired so now have fine mesh under the main air vents to prevent any crap getting stuck in there again.

Hey there Haynzy,

Yea the build is getting there slowly but have made a bit of progress in the last few weeks, have now got engine mounts sorted and have a transfer case mated up to my lexus auto so in the next few weeks my mate in Wangas will get the thing wired up, Then suss out the drive shafts, and probally spend the next month or 3 putting the rest of the truck back together as it seems like 2 years ago I pulled it apart haha, Then you will see me down the river more often eh.

Are you in the Manawatu club or one of the central districts ones, I was out at the first round of the club champs Jafa,s little suzi goes well eh

Welcome to team Toyota Nic, about time ya saw the light 8)

I would suggest going with 33's, I have and just had to massage the firewall a little :) and if I did it again, I would fold the edge of the guard nearest the door before the tyre does it for ya

I was thinking 33's might suck just that little bit too much power?

I'll get some prices on Saturday, Might look at those federal corugia's? They come in 33. Anything else I should price up $2-300 per tyre?

Talk nicely to some of the hilux guys and see if you can borrow their 33's for a morning and see how they run on your truck and what the gearings like before you make a decision Nick
