Need new winch motor

Post by albundy »

Burnt the winch motor out at Kopara a month or so ago (Warn M8000). Got three options, replace with new bigger winch(electric or pto), replace with new warn motor or replace with aftermarket motor. Anyone know of aftermarket winch motor dealers/suppliers? If I went with new motor only I would look at getting one with more HP for more grunt. Thoughts, ideas, advice and direction to suppliers muchly apprecited.

Get an Autosparky to have a look at it.. We have one here in Welly (Knappo's) who fixes/rebuilds ours for a fraction of a new one and more powerfull to, a mate burned out his Warn motor, got it fixed for like $100 bucks

Hi Al,

Basically all motors will bolt up but you run into problems with then length of the motors themselves. Yours may well have been a 24v 2.5hp motor but i can't be sure. THe bigger the motors the longer they are by about 25mm each size you go up, ie 4.6hp, 6.0 hp etc. If your winch is tightly mounted other options might not fit.

If my 4.6 (XD9000) blows up, i will be putting a 6hp warn one on, sounds like they are the most reliable from what i have read. But they are expensive and you cany buy an entire chinese winch for the price of a motor. I guess the more power you put into it, the stress will be on the shaft and gearbox of the smaller size winch....

4th option, repower winch with a hydraulic motor, cost a bit for motor and valving etc, but you won't burn it out again :D
