2C project vehicle

Hi all, I've got a little project truck with a toyota 2C diesel engine, (I've got a 3L engined surf too, so I'm used to toyota diesels)
but I'm interested to know more about the 2C/3C fanily of engine's from the lightace range of van's etc. My project has more open air intake (hilux air filter and snorkle), and fairly open exaust.
Has anyone modified one of these or know much about them? any reliablity issue's?? Recomended Improvements??
Is the only difference between a 2C and 3C the stroke?? Are the turbo variants reliable too??
I'm not trying to build to much of a monster engine

, Just nice low down bit of pull in a nice light truck...
Thanks for any info, Phil.

Whats the 2c in ?
As far as I know the only diff is capacity etc , 1 being 1800 , 2 - 2000 and the 3c 2200 .
I had a 2ct in a suzuki 413

And yes a diesel powered 413 can beat a corrolla FXGT of the lights easily

Ohhh, Jafa's jelous of my individuality!!
Thanks Chris, My project's a "full time 4wd with centre diff lock, light weight 2 door CHEEP truck" that I'm not worried about scratching...
Did you have any problems with your 2CT? Nothing I need to watch out for in particular??
Cheers, Phil.

That sounds like a Lada
I had a lada and the guy that brought it planed to put in a diesel and remove the 4wd system

I did not argue as I made $500 in three months on it
I had no hassles with it at all , only changed the oil . Had it for about 2 or 3 years so not too long . Never did find out much about it as it never let me down . It was heavy in the front of the 413 but the torque , you could get the front end to unload of the springs but not quite off the ground .
Now I want pictures

. Find yourself a turbo , or a whole turbo engine .

My daily drivers since 17 have been C powered rollas.
Ive still got one today.
I can honestly say I have never had nor heard of someone have a problem with one.
The only non-maintenance service Ive seen was an engine mount rubber that gave way from too much clutch dropping.
Find a turbo engine and bolt shit across. (3Ct's from Estimas have some problem with lying on their sides - oil feed i think. can find them dirt cheap.)
I though for a while of dropping one into a zook, a CE70 (early rolla diesel) uses the borgwarner RWD box and are simpler than tying your shoes to work with. Would make a good mud pig.
Only thing that gets me is their weight.
Tim.

Thanks Tim, do you need to change side plates on engine for the oil feed for the turbo or anything when converting them??
Have you played with boost level?? How low does the turbo kick in??
My plan is to work up to a 3CT with toyota auto and transfer box, once I've got stronger axle's under it.
Yea Chris, It's a lada!! (and it's called "miniskip" get it??

)
I wasn't gonna mention that yet, hoping to get some good info before the Lada joke's start

I couldnt tell you about the side plate front, havent done it myself.
The turbo on a 2ct kicks in somewhere around 1750-2000 if i remember right. Easy driving with an auto.
Ive never heard of them doing heads and they have mechanical pumps, so you could go relatively nuts with boost if you can keep it cold.
What do you want to use it for?
The vadz (Rusky name) has a seperate transfer case, easy to work ive heard.
Id just find a CE70 and slap its guts in, easy and cheap. Just make a stub adapter to the t/case.
From the one I drove a few years ago it had low enough gearing and with the diesel rev range would be fine.

Good, I've got water to air intercooler sitting in shed for it, and am gonna throw in a hilux surf radiator with elec fan. I'm a bit paranoid about temp- killed a couple of 2L-t's that way...
Gonna play with standard syspention and diff's etc for now, save up some parts and $$ then start from the ground up. proberly won't change anything to drastic for a year or so.
Main use is trying to keep up with stuearle and jaffa on club trips!!, and I want to get a bit more compeditive in the local Club champs. Standard lada will go places, but with lsd, a bit more wheel travel and bit bigger feet, I won't have to thrash it to much to get places...
I'm not going to big or to nuts (Yet

). i need to keep it legal, and want to build some reliability into it.
Prefer to use toyota transfer case, Lada one is annoying to line up, and I don't trust it's strength if I get 3Ct in front of it. Still keeping options open though. Would rather build it once and not worry about it.

The only reason i asked about the t/case is that IMO toy cases are too much work for the money.
Someone will know, Ive forgotten, is a Datsun 720 T/case set up for offset diffs? I know the Lada is centered, but it should be easier to set up.
