2lte question

Post by 4Paws »

What is the second smaller butterfly in the 2lte throttle body for? Mine is now jammed shut so what effect will this have on the engine?

EGR butterfly in conjunction with the main butterfly. also acts as shutoff butterfly.

very important that it either works or is stuck open. jammed shut is not good as this will cause more EGR to be sucked into motor (high EGT's, poor economy and poor performance) or if EGR is blocked it will restrict airflow with similar results.

what does EGR and EGT stand for? i thought it was to do with that other pipe that is already blocked on my motor? sorry for my ignorance just after more information and don't see why a motor needs all this extra stuff?

EGR exhaust gas recirculation. basically that pipe behind the motor thats blocked off. the butterfly's act as a restriction so more exhaust gas is sucked in to the motor. if you block the EGR off then it pays to remove the restriction the butterfly's make.

EGT exhaust gas temp, a guide to how hot the pistons are getting. go to high pistons and head crack or even melt.

no, that small butterfly won't effect speed. only thing you will not have is a smooth shutoff.

just don't remove TPS (black box on the same shaft as the buttflys) as its a pain to get back in the correct position.
