4/5th Oct

Post by curly12 »

Well end of the working week for me and about to head home to fix the hubs on the Whale.
It has auto/ manuel locking hubs and the auto part is worn out. Even when locked up they click in and out.
However I have been told that if you remove the auto part of the hub, you can use it as a standard manuel locking hub and it won't keep unlocking itself.

Guess i will find out if it works tomorrow arvo when i get to Rallwoods

Make sure there is no grease in them. They don't like grease and have the symptoms you are describing when grease is present. A light coat of oil only.

Inside the FWH, on the auto cam and locking splines. Obviously you need grease in the wheel hub, just not the free wheeling hub.

2nd attempt at this..... damn fandangled technology!

Took the 33's off the stock rims on the brides TJ and popped em on the new, matt black mangels.... and i rekon they look farking mean with only a 2 inch lift. Sure the flares are going to cop a flogging when the suspension is flexed, but what the hey!
Image

Image

Then, cranked up the front of mine and took out the stoooopid spacer that had the front up at a 5 inch lift and the rear at 4. Re-aligned the front and rear track bars, and then got the draglink centred also. Drives a damn sight better on the road now, no crabbing to the left and a heap lesss "float".

What to do on the brides one next.....??????? Body lift, winch, discos.... hmmmmmmmm

wired up the jeep, lockers, computer, dash etc, got the jeep tuned on the megasquirt, easy when you figure it out, got brakes bleed, bonnet fitted, inner guards glassed and trimmed, seat and belts fitted, redid exhaust as it was bloody noisy, it could be heard clearly 2 streets over i found out at the end of tuning session, list is down to a A4 sheet with 4 days to go, no pressure..

Had to take the little Flexi Fan Jnr off my truck and put a new fan on after getting told off by Sig
The new motor generates a bit more heat so I stuck a viscous fan on with blades that are a shit load bigger than the little Flexi Fan Jnr and fark what a difference, when I started the truck up in the shed before I put the new shroud on it there was newspapers and plastic bags and dirt and crap and rubbish blowing all over the place so its definately moving a shitload more air than the old fan was

When I took the truck through the aka's and back with Fweddys group today, the hills and slow congested moving that would have usually had me up at boiling over temp, I was staying down to just under 1/4 on the gauge so she's cooling real nicely now

I thought you were selling that one! What happened? BTW, like the look of the rims. Where did you source them from?

I was, but no-one was prepared to part with the reasonable amount i was after, and i want prepared to give it away.... so the new project begins.....

Rims are courtesy of another Jeeper that had them sitting in his shed, they were a bit banged up so some primer and some engine enamel and they came up good, i dont suspect theyll stay looking like that for long though. Looking at trying a different angle on flare extensions next week. Ill trial it on my one first, and if it comes up ok ill do it to the bosses one too. rather than buying the 7inch replacement flares, im going to cut the vertical plane off, and attach a strip of conveyor material to the remaining horizontal plane. Although Ill lose the side indicator.

How about something like this for side indicators and flares?
