setting up swivel hub..

Post by Engineer »

well, me being a silly duffer i got abit enthusiastic and didnt write down what shims need to go on what kingpin before i took them off.
whats the best way to get the correct shims where they need to be? i assume you want zero clearance/minimal preload in the bearing? what all needs to be concidered when setting swivel hubs up? and am i better to soak the felt seal in oil or grease or what?

Cheers

There's usually a force/torque specified to move it when it's got the right preload. No idea what the values are for your specific axle though.

Dunno what the Hilux ones are but my cruiser books says 4.0 - 8.5 lbs preload
