Hey guys, me and the ol man started making up rear bar today on my 60 surf, its purpose is to replace bumper and to accomodate recovery hooks. Hes a fitter/welder, got all the gear. Brought pipe this morning, 48 o/d mm, got it bent up. We are using the mounts off the old towbar, pretty heavy duty, 8-10mm plate fixed to chassis. Question is, do i have to be aware of anything for w.o.f or cert standard? do i even need a cert? the bar will be nicely tucked below tailgate, 10mm clearance, and the sides will not exceed out past the width of widest point of rear wheel arches, i want to put a verticle bar on each corner, so is there a rule of thumb so it doesnt obstruct taillights?? we will be putting 10mm plate (gussests) from pipe to brackets (2 of) which will also be for me hooks. Ive been observing alot of rear bars lately on diff vehicles, alot being factory and most of them are very big and stick oout wider than any point of the vehicle, so i cant see any problem. All your help and hints and advice much appreciated, we are both just getting into the 4wd scene and need to know all the dos and donts. Sorry, no pics, havent worked out yet how to upload em, or beter yet, put up some pics of your rear bar, gime some ideas.

Re: fitting rear bar to my 60
it doesnt need a cert. just no sharp edges for pedestrians .It will need to be fairly beefy for recovery .Some people are pretty anal about towing from home made stuff.even though its probably alot stronger thn your factory gear.
