With the purchase of St James Station, DOC are working out what will be allowed in the way of recreation. They have asked the NZFWDA for comment. We are asking you... are there iconic 4x4 routes that people can identify that run through or on that property? They need to be identified very quickly so that DOC can hopefully include them on their list in the next few days.

The only 4 wheeling that the Stevensons have ever allowed is for the Goose Shoot and even then they were not to follow another trucks wheel tracks. That my understanding from my imvolvement in the coast to Coasts. I would like to have someone say that is wrong.

YUP, its open every year during some of the summer.
Siwsie and i druv it from Hanmer to Acheron last Feb. good drive it was too, coulda taken the elderly civic.
It's the other leg of the Molesworth run which we are saving until the four of us can go in a group.

Thanks for the comments, the NZFWDA have put forward a paper to DOC advocating the value of the roads and tracks on the property to 4x4 recreation. The latest correspondence from DOC today indicates that 4WD use will not be allowed for some time as the property will not be de-stocked until 2010 and DOC also want to check the roads and tracks.

Dont you have to cross St James if you come accross from St Arnard to Hamner.... Rainbow-Molesworth-St James? is that access going to be closed off while doc sort their shit out?

DOC provided an interim map today that may give better information on what is planned.

looks like the route fron St Arnard to Hamner skirts along the St James boundary so it might remain open for the summer vehicle/4x4 access

You are all getting confused with the Molesworth which is between Blenheim and Hanmer and even the Tarnsdale part of that is out of bounds.

The St James has only one access and that is off the Rainbow Rd and Im sure it has never allowed recreational 4 Wheeling
When I was on the committee of the Coast to Coasts we looked at every possibility to get off road.
