Bro in law smashed his front diff on recent Ashley trip in his MU. So decided to weld it up as nothing to lose.
He certainly noticed the extra traction, but also is noticeably scuffing on hard turning on shingle. He managed to smash that soon after - pulled it out and discovered welds had broken - had it re welded and put back in on sunday and went out for a drive and play - that's the last I heard.
Nothing like a weldwell locker for economy

don't weld front, throws you off hill and off camber tracks in a flash, been there got the rollover to match

i welded the front diff on my vitara after running out of spares and thought it would be a temperory thing but i love it , it is now a true 4wd with both welded and it didnt affect my steering as much as i thought it would , it makes it a lot easier to drive slowy over stuff , problem now is dont want to change back but probaly will for summer.

Im fairly certain its illegal to have a fulltime locked differential for a roading going vehicle.
if its only used offroad its not a problem...but as others have said in the front it makes turning a bit of a problem at times.

I think for a selectable 4wd in the front is ok as its not used on road???

Only if you've got (and use) freewheeling hubs.
