Surf ball joint spacers

Has anybody tried ball joint spacers on their surf .Seems to be quite a common mod in Aussie & USA. Suspension lift without crankin the torsion bars up to much therefore not as much harshness from changed torsion bar spring rate. Heres a link from the aussie Surf owners site.
http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/c ... ension.htm . Are thinking of making some myself .Had thought steel maybee easier and would definately last better under stress over time.Of course the grade of Aluminium would be a factor if making them out of this .
Will the certifier be happy with these ?
All thoughts and disscussion most welcome.
Cheers
Ken

snap!
I was just investigating that very lift for someone here as well. Give me a shout on 021 637 600 - might have a business proposition for you if you want to make several sets - make the main spacers from T6 ali if you can get it, and the others from steel and have them passivated zinc coated.

Hi Steve,
Yes getting the right ali might be the hard one . May be able to get it through work for a good price . Steel is more readily available & I think we have some spare floating around that thickness. Dont mind making a few extra sets but have to squezze it all in between the rest of my work and watching out for the boss as well

. May make up a jig to do a few sets which may make it easier. Should be able to get everything Zinc coated through work as well.
Will give you a bell

Still making these but is slow going as very busy at work . Have to squeeze work on these in when I can . Haven`t thought about a cost as yet . Will work it out once they are made.

Has anyone installed a set yet? Very interested to see how it went. Any problems with steering geometry etc? I see on the Aussie link that they also lowered the diff. Not sure how they did the front mount.

I suspect they left the front mount and just let it pivot down... dodgy, but hey... its just IFS...

Hi Guys,
My appologies , haven`t visited the forum for awhile .
Have finally made a set of ball joint spacers but have yet to fit to the surf. Also intending to look at the diff lowering as per the aussie site .
I copied of a ball joint to make up a template as a drilling jig and to shape the spacers
Still intend to make some more sets when I get a chance

what was the final verdict with this type of lift? sounds like a cheap and easy way to get more room under the arches
