New engines?

Post by gimmemud »

Hi guys just wondering... can you get new engines from holden for older cars? I blew up my 3.8 v6 series 1 motor in my surf and it would be very sweet if i could get a new one. Or is it best just to get an old one and have it reconditioned?
Cheers, Tim

I wish i could get a later model one but i heard the flywheel? is different to the series 1 and i don't wanna have to buy all the adaptors and everything again. unless anyone knows if i can change to a series 2 without any/many probs then i would go for that cause these series 1 motors are getting rarer.

i thought the series 1 and 2s were much the same, i know that when first released in 89 they had reliabilty issues and small parts failure, but fixed all that, which was then named the series 2, series 2s are the way to go definately. even if you just got one stripped, checked and all seals, bearings etc replaced that isnt too pricey.... Someone said to me the other day, a poor man always ends up spending twice... worth spending a little more now to save you the hassle of doing this all over again in a years time.

I run a series 2 3800 V6 and as far as I know the only real differences are in the thermostat position, the coils and possibly the 2 water temp sensors (one might be at the back). Not sure on the transmission though.

But if it was me I'd just buy a 2nd hand motor with guarantee, I mean these motors are so common and cheap that you could by 3 complete motors as spares for the price of a rebuild. Plus they usually last for 300,000km's anyway.

I plan to fit a supercharger to mine and think it would be very interesting to see what you can get out of an un-opened motor 8)

Yeah i've found a series one in welly with 200ks on it for $500 and the guy said it was running sweet when he took it out of the car. it comes with absolutely everything on it which means i'll end up with two of everything :D. going down there for work on tuesday so will probably go check it out, but can't take it back with me cause i'm flying down :( .
Hopefully it's all sweet and he's coming up here on the 22nd so can bring it up for an extra $100 :D :D.

I just want to get my truck back on the road, and might get it recond a bit later on.
