i have jst purchased bigger tires for my standard 89 surf (old shape) they are 31x10.5 and rub a little, so now i am think about suspension. prity much i want to get it abit higher so theres no rubbing and so that the back doesnt scrape on the ground as much off road, and i have very limitied money (student load payments stoped this week lol), what is the best option???

put longer shackles on mine, wound the T-Bars up, cut the bump stops and removed the front sway bar. That was all with in the first month of having it

??

cheapest is to pull the shackles, buy some 8mmx40mm bar and make new longer plates for them and tweak the torsion bars

Best option, SAS

Most likely option, somewhere in between. New lifted rear springs, new long travel shocks front and rear and tweaked torsion bars... about $800 worth I would estimate

how much longer would you suggest making the shackel plates?

50mm longer than stock... will make for about 1" of lift. I wouldn't go much higher than that.

You'll also need a 14 and 18mm drill bit to make the holes - they will set you back about $50 for the pair... I make extended rear shackles for $130/pr with new greasable pins if you don't have access to the right tools etc..
