Hi all,
installing new hubs tomorrow but dont know how
much grease to use. Do i pack them with heaps or just
a bit ? , do i use bearing grease ?
any help much appreciated - Al

give them a good oil but no grease, can cause problems with engaging later on

Have heard a very very light smear of cv grease but not much as it can cause them to bind.

Gear oil is the best thing to use...

I just pulled my hubs apart last night.
Where i had used marine bearing grease the grit/sand/dirt had got lodged and started to rust. trapped grit was also in the sliding part of the hub,making them hard to engage.

I had used gear oil on the CV spline and this was the only part that was still mint.
both Gasket seals were in good condition on the hubs, the water seemed to have forced its way through the front of the hub engage mechanism.

I only had them apart 6 months ago aswell

Think outside of the square! If your in deep water then the path for the water to flow is into the CV houseing, then down the gap between the axle and stub axle tube and into the freewheeling hubs.
Prados and Landcruisers 1990 onwards 70series have a 'O' Ring in the stub axle bush the stop the water from entering the electric hubs.
