Can someone custom make me a clutch?

Post by gimmemud »

Hi guys posted this in 4wd parts but thought i'd try here as well. i've got a custom made clutch with a toyota spline and solid centre, and a commodore outer diameter. Could someone on here do this? Or suggestions who could. gotta get my truck going again.

Cheers, Tim

Hi Tim
I dont think its a good idea using a clutch plate with a solid centre as the springs are design to lessen shudder and sometimes you just may need to slip the clutch. With a solid centre you may terr the plate to bits ... I have had good service from Auckland Clutch and Brake?? just off Wairae Rd ?? close to Glenfeild on the shore. If you cant find it give me a yell and i'll look up a past invoice for their number. While you are playing with pressure plates ask them if its possible to reset the holding pressure. They did this for me when fitting a toyota pressure plate onto a toy v8 that tended to slip at 80 ks Didnt increase the pedal presure just the clamping force. Have fun :D

Cheers dj and skid, i'll go see both those places and see what they say.
Clutch never seemed to slip when normal driving or in the mud. the only problem was when i was sand driving with the combination of too much grip and too much power. Will ask them about the springs and shudder etc also because there was quite a nasty vibration when driving along the road... although it could off had something to do with all the balancing holes in the flywheel filled with crap.

Hi Tim
the springs in the clutch plate are to take up the sudden inpact when the clutch is engauged to lessen heat wrapage. the vibration at speed may not be caused by balance holes being filled with crap as an imbalanced flywheel tends to break crankshafts off at the rear main bearing.Check for early signs of this, fretting around flywheel bolt holes, leaking rear seal, etc etc... It would take alot of crap in the balance holes to make a vibration.
cheers

Hey, Whats the outer diameter of the clutch plate you need? just conveted mine to manual and got a clutch plate from BNT that works on the toyota spline on my ln130 box. Think it was 255mm outside diameter.
I have the part number at my work if your interested i can get it for you tomorow.

The outside diameter is 255mm and inside diameter is 170mm. part number would be good thanks, cause i'm sure getting one from bnt will be a lot cheaper than custom made.

Cheers.

Took the flywheel to get machined at Automotive brake and clutch and told the guy the numbers and he sorted it all out for me. put it all back together yesterday and it was sweet as. Thanks for that.

Also when i got to the clutch place the guy looked at my old clutch plate and said it was bent and asked me if the truck vibrated real bad. it use to vibrate something cronic so now hopefully it's gonna be a smooth ride when i get it all going again :D :D .
