We were discussing this trip yesterday at work.
Is this the road that follows the transmission towers?

Yes,it's always been open to the public since the two roads were joined up.At the New Creek end , you payed a small fee to the man at the gate.
The farm has changed hands.

I guess there's no harm in this being public knowledge, so i'll post up here.

As at Janaury 2005, this was who to contact -

House at the gate at the New Creek end:

Albert Siebelink (pronounced "cyber-link") (03) 789 0229

Land Owner:

Terry Lee (03) 7890 227

I'm not 100% sure his surname is Lee, but thats whats scribbled in my diary, so we'll go with that.

I am looking at doing this track in the next few weeks, can anyone tell me what type of track/s these are as I have heard it is a good trip, but need to know what vehicles are capable of driving it.
I'm told it follows the transmission towers, so assume its kept up to a good standard.

Cheers,
Dave

It's a good hard service road used for and maintaining the power line.
There is a river that you cross,if its been heavy rain within 24hours, can be a bit tricky. Check for deep holes before crossing. Cross in a large hourseshoe sweeping patturn, the holes will be visable

make sure you watch where your going  one of the guys I was with got stuck, so I drove in to get round him and pull him out, but was watching him wheel spinn instead of watching where I was going and got stuck on top of a rock :) First time I've ever got a 10ft jet of water out of my front tyres....

99% of the time you woudn't have any problems with the crossing, only after a heavy spell of rain. Usually the crossing is about 40 to 90cm deep Just take care! [/img]

Its not so much the depth thats the issue.
Its the size of the mobile bolders in there.

You really need to have a very good look and choose your route carefully. Possibly even walk it.

When the ORE Dvd comes out you will see what i mean.

Went through end of Jan. It is gravel road, should cause no problems at all. River was low and no problems to pick way through.
