Keeping a 2LT cool?

Managed to blow a radiator hose on my 2LT surf on the weekend after some intense right foot up a few hills
was thinking about putting another fan on switch on the front to help air flow, have cleaned the mud out of the radiator and was thinking about taking out the air con condenser would this help? Are there any other tricks to keeping these cool as I've heard they're pretty prone to self destructing at high temperatures.
Cheers
Shea

Have a look in here - it's a very long thread and has been posted before but is well worth the read. The first page or so deal with the gauge, then it get's more heavily into guys trying to lower their temps.

the best way to keep a 2lt cool and not cook it, is to rip it out and drop in a 7m or 2jz
sorry couldn't help it

It all depends how much you want to spend, i have just done the cooling system on mine (because i put the fan through the radiator and stuffed the water pump in one trip) i would definitely recommend pulling out your radiator and taking it in to get flushed out and checked i have heard of people taking them in and getting reports of them being 90 percent blocked but still running and surprise surprise never got hot on the temp gauge.
Well your at it it might be worth pulling apart the system and giving it all a really good clean out, i could not believe the shit that came out of mine. Replace the thermostat and maybe the water pump if you feel like it.
Depending what spec your truck is (auto or manual) or more importantly what spec your radiator is some of them have an auto trans cooler in the bottom tank of the radiator, if this is the case get rid out it and run an external cooler if your auto, or throw it over your shoulder if your not.
Get rid of the viscous fan, not because it doesn't work but because sooner or later you will "nudge" something and there is enough play in the engine mounts to put the fan into the radiator. I am going to use a big 16inch electric fan for mine, you can get good ones new from radiator shops or get one from a wrecking car or off trademe,
As i have found they came out with two different sized radiators one much thicker than the other, you def want the thicker one or if you want to spend some coin get a shop to build you a custom one with fans already mounted.
If you still have your factory exhaust throw that over your shoulder as well, free it up and it will keep temps well down, speaking of which it is well worth getting an EGT gauge and a temp gauge that reads a better scale that the old "i've blown a hose, have no water and I'm still sitting on half way"
I have no idea if this helps but it may e somewhere to start, as said before there is a lot of info about them on here and that's simply because they are a ticking time bomb, you need to appreciate they have bugger all power and the more mods like big tyres etc the more you will thrash it until it goes bang.
Good luck and if you come across any new ideas or tricks let us no

Make sure you're cooling system is at it's best, after I got my rad re-cored I switched to evan's waterless coolant
http://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/ ... ience.html A set of guages - EGT, boost and water temp - let you know what is going on with the engine. Larger exhaust and increased boost let the engine breathe better and there are a couple guys over on the australian surf owners site that have had luck using a water/methanol injection set-up. All sorts of little things add up to make it a reliable engine.
