I did this some time ago, and never posted anything about it

now as I'm selling it I've had to post the pix to show what I've done so I thought I'd throw it up for everyone esle to see
"Road Legal Fiddle Brakes"
By putting a whole new brake calipure onto the axle and it not effecting the current braking system you "by-pass" all the cert problems

and would you believe all it is for a cert is a low level

all they need to do to pass it, is a visual of the welds
And all you use to run them is a hyd clutch master cylinder, a nice common one would be a hilux one

hope this sparks some ideas

i've been thinking about doing something like this but use air to operate the brakes the theory of using is is that you only really use fiddles brakes to stop spinning wheels so you don't need as much control to operate them i.e. max pressure should stop them

But if you have good control over the pressure, they can be used as a traction aid.
In that situation, you don't want the wheel locked, just to even the load on the diff between the wheels so they both get drive,as it would in an even traction situation.
It would be simpler to set them up with the hydraulics anyway!!!

fiddle brakes are overkill on a bush trucks thats why i ripped mine off last weekend its just more crap to break (i only put them on to be a wanker to keep up with the jones's)

you've never driven brittish have you .... as somebody who has and has perfected the 10 piont turn, anything that improves the steering circle is good!
its just more crap to break
Have a good look at the brake line garding

1 step ahead of you on that one

by the way still waiting for that info on independent syspension there EF

Thanks for that EF
I did have his number was going to give him a call for prices on the axles once I worked out what I was doing

I hadn't thought it was Brain Howat that owned it

he'll deffinitly be worth calling!!
Cheers Reece
Ps this might be happening a bit faster than I thought as I've possibly just done the engine in my test truck and I've got a lexus sitting doing nothing

if I'm going to cert that sort of swop I'll need to do the brakes so I might as well do the syspension as well

Damm this is shades of "Lemon"... the only thing I'm keeping is the cab!!

Hi Turoa
are you running endless air? I am going to run twin VH44's modified so the atmosphere chamber will become an air chamber so I can air activate them individually, 1 for each rear wheel, they should take 60psi ok and will enable disc fiddles to work
J Top
PS Andy still says I only need 1 caliper to do this and my service brakes

Yea, im convertin an old air con compressor to an air compressor. The VH44 idea sounds interesting. Does it just have a resivoir at one end of the line? And do you have a good supply of VH44's? Im still looking for some

It does not need a reservoir because it is plumbed into the service brakes
as approved by Andy

hmm, if the galant calipers have enough braking, I might try this.
