Colour matching Problem,

Post by minefield »

Using my colour code[483] I had a aerosol can mixed up but the colour was a long way out , My Nissan is a berry red and I got fire-engine red, I was told that If I knew what colour was called they could get a better match, I have never had this problem before and I have had a few cans made up.
My GQ is a 89 model has any one know where I could get a colour chart I am trying to patch a dent in my door on the cheap

i usually take the vehicle with me to an auto paint shop. They mix the paint off the colour code, and then adjust it by eye to the vehicle colour, Or take the petrol cap off and take that with you.

otherwise you could try giving your car a cut and polish and see if the red colour on your 4wd returns to a more original colour, it may have just faded.

Rubbish to whoever told you the name would be better than the code :? Paint shops mix by computor and the code or name is the same thing however a lot of colours have variance's some upto 5 or 6.Taking a piece of the Saf into a local paint shop will be best however they wont be able to put into a can.

A good auto paint store will be able to match it from a sample then put it into a spraycan for you.

Colour Service used to do it in chch until it went belly up years ago.

Might be worth cutting and polishing the bit you take in so when you paint the door and cut/polish it and the rest of the truck to get a nice shine (that you will later ruin with mud and clay) they still match.

I got my last aerosol can made in Christchurch perfect match and used the same code no. I think I have it sorted now we have a paint rep calling on us at work and he calls on all the paint shops he is going to dig up some of the original paint charts the next time he calls, I'm in no hurry
