Go on the web and look up "marks adapters" i think it is.
The make adapters to bellhousings to blocks for all sorts of stuff. Ya never know.
I wouold think yo could possibly be limited for choice here. Its gonna be what you already had, a 2Lt-E or a random petrol implant.
I wonder how a Nissan TD27-(T) would work in one of those. Lotsa work for no gain in performance, but a lot stronger and more reliable engine.
I'm being seriouse to.
But by all means, let the Nissan jokes role..................

its geting youre auto to shift correctly thats the issue not fitting the engine
value for money if you want a v8 youle get a 3.5-3.9 rover efi for 1500ish
the cheapest would prob be the m conversion and i know how to make the Astyle trans talk with the 5m

keep the trans thou mate the are bullet proof, just awesome

Okay after 24 hours.... the best option is a V8 of some description, So lets see if anything else comes up..
I Think a Lexus V8 bolts straight in. Check withWD Upgrades in
Christchurch. Ph 03 3658800. Talk to Mike.
Let us know what you do as I've have the same truck.
Cheers

yes a Lexus does bolt "straight in", you just need the Lexus bellhousing, torque converter and overdrive gear, my local auto trans shop charged $90 to change it all over, however I would not do it again, not with the auto, on 33" tyres it bogged quite badly because of real power/ torque below 3000rpm, above that it was good fun, in second gear not much could keep up with it, but the gearing was a bit tall, 2nd gear red lined at 140k, but the lack of torque keep you working it off the road and made it quite sluggish in 3rd and OD, I was running an aftermarket link computer, I eventually had had enough of pouring the gas into it 15mpg average, best 19.5mpg, 8mpg towing, I upgraded to a 2000 surf with the 1KD-FTE 16 valve common rail turbo diesel and started wondering why I bothered with the v8 (apart from the sound of a Lexus at 7000rpm), it is quicker off the mark, slightly slower mid range and the torque makes it a quicker above 120 and I average 29 mpg, 27mpg towing, where a
ll this is heading is what happened to your engine, after all my experiences I would keep to the 1KD and if you want more power put an efficient aftermarket intercooler on it, the other advantage is that further down the track when you wish to sell or upgrade you will have something to sell, my v8 took 2 months to sell and I struggled to get 7k for it, immaculate condition, lifted, tyres, lsd, etc, I was not interested in the work but I could done better to convert it back to diesel and sell the v8 separately

1JZ or 2JZ... later model supra 6-cyl motors... cheap enough to buy, lots of torque, reliable and they sound very nice
I believe I can get you an adaptor plate nice and cheap that will bolt up to a Hilux box using the standard auto bellhousing - if not the Prado one...
You can even get a twin-turbo motor then - and shred your tyres

Sounds interesting... Well there have been some developments... which I'll go into next week
In the meantime I found:
From http://lextreme.com/transmission.htm
Lexus:
LX450 4.2L L6 (sport utility vehicle) 1996-97
LX470 4.7L V8 1998
Toyota:
Landcruiser 4.5L L6 1/95-on
Also
3F, 3FE, 1FZ-FE, 2UZ-FE
Any of the above motors were sold attached to my gearbox... although they all seem to be quite new
ahh well..
keep the ideas coming.... should have a plan by end of next week
