will this fit into my front diff of my surf, im not up to play on diffs and ratios, are the front and rears the same?

check your diff code (on id tag on firewall).
G282 =4.3 open
G285 = 4.3LSD
G252 = 4.5 open
G255 = 4.5 LSD
G142 = 4.88 open
G145 = 4.88 LSD

You will probably find you have 4.5 or possibly 4.3 ratio diffs. Provided no one has changed your diffs prior to you owning it.
My YN60 had 4.5 ratio originally,

sweet, heaps a help, ive got l.s.d in the rear so looking to fit 1 in the front, so will i have to fit a diff that is the same as the original ratio?

yes it will fit your truck but it's very low geared your probley better off running 4.88 or 4.5 . I'm running 4.5 as they are strong and dont cost as much as the 4.88

i had a truck like your surf i weld fornt and rear diffs and it went alot better offroad and cheap i got the same in my 02 hilux now
