Hi All,my daughter has just bought a 91 Terrano 2.7 turbo diesel, everything seems to work Auto was apparently rebuilt 3 years ago shifts nice and smooth but will not go into overdrive,,I know nothing about these so some help would be appreciated.I was told that the overdrive was vacuum opperated and that it was common for the hoses to fail stopping overdrive working i have checked the hoses coming off the gearbox that appear to be vacuum lines but they run up into the engine bay on the drivers side and are not conected to anything ,can anyone tell me where these are supposed to go and if they are vacuum opperated..Cheers

The overdrive is temperature operated, I usually have to drive about 6 km's before mine will go into final lockup.

I'm pretty sure it is basically the same auto that I have but is the 1a as opposed to the 3a that the Safari's use. If so then the valve body and controls are the same.
I had the OD problem with mine a long time ago and all that I did was cut th wires to the sender and wired in the right size resistor so the the TCU always thought the auto was warm. On a Safari it was the white wire and black wires that come from the auto loom. I did it in the engine bay by the plug for the loom to the auto so that if the auto was changed then the mod was removed.
Give me a call if you want to know more.
