World's best TJ for sale

Post by Flash2004 »

I thought that heading might have gotten your attention but it might be true of a still road legal truck?

An opportunity before it goes on Trademe, I'll work a very special price to any genuine jeep enthusiast.

This Jeep is the result of two consecutive owners with more money than sense and it has virtually everything, including bling, which is available in the world today for a truly capable road legal TJ. It is fully certified for all modifications.

1999 TJ Renegade (NZ new) includes largely intact 2000 (48,000km) damaged TJ as parts donor. hard top and near new soft top.

Repainted Chrysler metallic black by PPG in January 08 with ceramic clearcoat to resist vegetation scratching and it works.

Starting at the front, but I'm sure to forget stuff:
TJM (I think - but a mainstream brand anyway) bullbar with a used three times Superwinch X9 9000lb in bumper winch and used once plasma 100' rope with overbraid.
Side bars/sliders enclose entire vehicle and act very well as tree and rock repellent devices.
HID headlights with built in ballasts.
Black steel wheels (including spare) with beadlockers allow air down to 1psi if you want, tractor inner tubes for fast air down, on board endless air (converted AC pump with pressure tank) for rapid air up.
Mickey Thomson BAJA Claws 35 x 13.5 x 15 bias ply (including spare) all at least 50% life left or more and there's still too much grip on occasions.
Front axle new OEM rubicon Dana 44 with TRAK LOK (spare new short axle) 4.88 gears restores original road gear ratios.
Rear axle Dana 44 with 4.88 gears, ARB air locker, complete axle assembly overhauled with all bearings, seals, etc. travelled less than 500km.
Engine standard except for high flow throttle body but I believe it was rebuilt by the previous owner after a drowning. I very recently had a dyno tune done and it does not burn a drop of oil between changes. K&N cartridge in original airbox and snorkel. Eaton M90 rebuilt blower available but not fitted and never was.
Transmission 3 speed auto with lockup and beefed up torque converter, both overhauled recently.
Transfer case recently rebuilt (with parts from donor TJ) with new Rugged Ridge slip yoke eliminator kit, CV type front and rear driveshafts eliminate any driveline issues.
Suspension Rubicon Express 5.5" long arm kit fitted for some quite reasonable flex and the kit includes armoured and flush underbody plates. OME shocks all round control body roll very well and the result is the maintained level body over extreme wheel travel you see in American magazines. The balance is really quite brilliant whether climbing steeper than you'd ever imagine you could, dropping or going around sidelings. There is never any sensation, or sudden realisation either, you're going to go over backwards or do a nosedive. Front swaybar disconnects complete the picture but I've found you're usually wheeling on your own before you need them. She drives well on the road too, steering geometry is all adjusted to compensate for the lift and you can blast the gravel roads or cruise at illegal speeds if that's your thing.
Rear bars and spare wheel mount with Hilift fixing points. Receiver type tow bar, regulation tow hooks front and rear, windscreen spotlight mounts (wired with relays), cassette stereo with overhead sound bar, Single custom made cubby box for four seater travel, full rear custom made storage drawer and shelves for two seater travel. Wired for CB with stainless whip antenna.
I have nearly all the original parts as well as the donor Jeep included in the package.

This Jeep is no longer a work in progress, I think its safe to say, after a combined investment of about $140,000 including its original cost, its done. The weak links (except for the current driver) have all been removed. I'm selling it because now I've been there and done that and now its all just too easy. The truck has far more ability than I'll ever have as its driver and now its your turn to be "the one to beat" on the trail or even in Parnell road or Courtenay Place. Its your turn to be the "go to guy" when the Patrols, Discos, cruisers etc. are bogged to the eyeballs or simply just can't make it somewhere and need a hand. There's a lot of good natured ribbing about this within our (Egmont) club, sure I've spent some time ironing out bugs and flinging spanners at it on the trail, usually after attempting the impossible, but every time its driven itself out and every time I've bought or had made better bits to improve and fix it for good. After all the ribbing I get with the TJ I still think it would be safe to ask and of our members if its the truck they'd want if they could have it. Try it, Its a Jeep thing.

I have no idea what i want for it, I guess it will be a combination of things that helps us arrive at a good affordable price for the new guy - or gal. Whether you're a good bastard(ess), can appreciate it, can drive it well, can add value to it and Jeep's reputation. Somewhere between $1.00 and $40,000 should see it in your shed. At this stage I'd rather not sell bits of this collection off separately thanks. PM with Email for photos, but if someone'll walk me through it, I'll put some up here?

Things I forgot which are included: Completely rebuilt Dana 30 front axle assembly with ARB locker and 4:88 gears, both axle shafts and UJs, new spare set of 4:88 gears. Hardtop with black tints, painted to match body. New spare short front D44 axle shaft and UJ assembly.

More things remembered: matching black half doors are included for use in the summer. The steering tie rod is now chrome moly tubing, with a new spare complete with tie rod ends.

Thanks, but I think anyone buying the TJ will want the hard top, especially since it has the million dollar ceramic paintjob to match the rest of the truck. Factory Black tints too you know. Put a number in front of what you'd pay for the HT and you might own the whole lot!

We don't want to encourage anyone to take an unarranged test drive by being too specific Coxsy, Waitara's near enough. I'd crawled her to the top of a quite high and very steep crushed gravel pile here in the yard where I thought it'd be safe a week or so ago and only took it down yesterday. I had a shot at climbing up there with the Land cruiser with its brand new tyres on but no show at any speed. Maybe I'm being hasty at thinking of getting rid of the TJ?

Sounds like a challenge   New Years at Gordons trying to climb the gravel pile

But in all seriousness knowing Gordon as i do, this truck will be built well, and nothing would have been done cheaply.

Should be a good buy for someone

Nick's right, someone else could have and probably would have done it cheaper. The end result is though (when its driven right and proper), you would need a top rally truck to beat it in a club champs or trials scenario, and its yet to be shaded on any bush, farm, forest or any other track or terrain by any truck of any sort. Never, ever, has any other road legal truck come close. If something/someone did, and I somehow forgot, I'm sure they'll remind me and please do. (insert any screams here)
