New Guy - Help needed deciding on new vehicle

Ladies/Gents,
Great forum.... I've had a browse through some of the topics and seen a wealth of useful info, especially for a newbie like me.
Im trying to decide on my first 4WD and am open to any suggestions as to what you reckon i should get. Im only a 4WD beginner so i don't reckon i'll be doing any hardcore driving anytime soon. Im more interested in touring around NZ and occasionally venturing off the beaten track to places where a 4WD is needed.
At this stage I have narrowed my choices down to 2 vehicles... Both SWB Pajero's.
1.) 1994 SWB Pajero - Petrol 3.5L V6 DOHC - Auto - 150,000km
2.) 1994 SWB Pajero - Petrol 3.0L V6 - Auto - 140,000km
Im more inclined to get the 3.0L V6 as it is far cheaper, and as i understand, the 3.0L V6 engine is far more common than the 3.5L DOHC, and therefore easier/cheaper to maintain. However, I do like the look and additional grunt of the 3.5L. What do you reckon? I've also seen a few Bighorns (1992-1995) and early model Nissan Teranos which i like for a similar price range, but they might be a bit a bit bulky for my liking and i dont know much about them.
Comments/Advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers
