coby muffler on a diesel

Post by wildplumdx »

was thinking of replacing my mufflers with cobys just to free up the exhaust system and help get the gasses out quicker plus power gains would be another great thing, but i dont want it to sound loud? as diesels are different do they get loud like petrol's when you do this ? even if replaced one muffler, any thoughts ? also whats the price on the coby mufflers ? also its on a L200 diesel 4d56

I run a 3" straight pipe W/coby on my 80 series, its loud but not to bad.

I ran a 3" W/straight through rage performance muffler on my Safari, that was louder than the 80 series.

It makes a big difference whether the engine is turbo charged or not, the turbo seems to make things alot quieter.

Small but worth while power gains with the straight through system on both the N/A and Turbo motors

Price will depend on how much pipe work needs to be done and what size coby you want to put on. You might be looking at the $200 mark, It will be louder than two mufflers but will give you better air flow.

You've already got one good muffler, the turbo.

So just one after that should be good to go. It's difficult to predict noise levels though.

to me its just not the sound level but what it sounds like. local guy here has a 2.7 turbo navara with coby on it as the only muffler but it sounds like crap untill boost gets up.

why not an almost straight through muffler. bit more expencive, proberly not a lot of differnce in power but certainly tend to sound a lot nicer.

ive just got the one muffler before the diff big one as looks like someones removed he front one , thought i had 2 but yeah not keen on loud and proud, might go for a super turbo muffler or something bit quieter, mines leaking a little too so needs replacing, i'm after a little more power gain and just that little bit more free flow to get the hot gasses out since i wound up the boost/fuel pump etc

turbos make great mufflers. If its too noisey add a straight through right near the end, if its still too noisey add a small cone down in size at the very tip.

DO NOT go fitting small mufflers at the end of the exhaust pipe !

if it needs to be quieter fit one of the same diameter closer to the motor or simply change the type of the existing one.
if its stil really loud go down in pipe size. do not go fitting low flow mufflers on high flow exhaust pipes. mufflers need to match the pipes you use.

yeah i think ive sourced a turbo flow muffler which is similar to the flow master i think, for 90bux new 2.5 inch inlets and outlet so i'll have to get new piping, any idea on how much just for the piping ? think it should make a difference, also ive got 3 spot weld holes in my current muffler, reckon that would effect power ? cheers

i pulled my exhaust off today coz it needs repair anyway and i took it for a run with no rear muffler so from the tray on had nothing and it wasnt that loud and i only have the rear muffler front ones been removed previous owner, just sounded like a big truck, only thing was i didnt notice any power gains from this small test, but is that really anything to go on ? so i reakon maybe a coby might be ok...?
