is the 4wd light coming on? there are 2 vacuum switches on top of the transfer case as well which might be the problem, they are just about impossible to get to, and if you have been in mud bogs then they may be clogged with mud.

you can download workshop manuals here http://www.warfs.org/content/view/16/47/
its the F75 etc not the F300

its similar to the hilux one where there is an electrically operated vacuum switch to engage and disengage 4wd, its the same as my prado, you can relocate the 2 solenoids to the firewall (you just need extra vacuum line)
(disclaimer: I may be talking crap)

Also when doing an oil change on the transfer case make sure you get the right bolt for the fill plug, theres a bolt each side and one of these holds 5th or reverse in.....

are the vacuum solenoids working?, do they move or vibrate when you put your hand on them with someone else operating the button?

Update your profile to include your location Then we know who you are close to and who can help.

I would suggest that it will be easier to repair the current system that replace the transfer case as you I believe you would have to replace the front diff as well.

I have a Surf and asked a similar question,
The current setup works by the transfer case driving the front diff all the time and when you push the switch to get 4wd Hi the solenoids join the front axles. if you don't push the button and just select 4wd low this selects low range in the transfer case and operates a switch to engage the same solenoids .

Some one correct me if I have this wrong

Heya,
I have had the same problem. I would suggest that you move the solenoids up to under the bonnet and run the tubing to the solenoids. This stopped them from getting in the mud and also water.
