Canty Xmas BBQ Trip

OK, it was mentioned in another thread about having a BBQ and get together over the xmas break. I'm thinking the weekend of the 10th or 11th of Jan. Either day works for me. Location to be confirmed Either the Ashley or the Waipara would be good picks. Depends how far people are willing to travel. Both are easy trips and cater for various vehicle and driver abilities. When voting please pick one date and one river that you would prefer
Cheers
Jason

Hes talking about you looking at the wrong calendar month.
Saturday is the 10th.
My vote will be the Waipara on the Sunday when you make this the 11th
Hopefully Jafa can come to this so some of the other locals can see art-iculation.

OK at this stage its looking like Sunday but i'll let the poll run till Tuesday night and what ever the poll says is where we go.
Plan will be to meet up either at the Pub just before the start of the motorway on the L/H side heading north at 9am. Or others may be happy to meet out there. I was thinking of dropping into the Waipara from the main rd bridge and head down stream from there. But i'm not 100% familiar with the area so if anyone else has a better place to start just post up.
Will stop at the big area with the hell hill climb for lunch and then carry on downstream to the beach. I'm guessing that everyone will be self sufficient as far as lunch, BBQ etc go, but if someone wants to bring a decent size BBQ I'll buy some snags for us.
As far as gear etc, Snorkles would be good but not essential. Tow hooks are a given really but if you want to come without them then thats your call, but don't guarantee that someone will be willing to hook up to your truck if you get stuck. this is a fairly easy trip with mainly shallow water crossings ( but does have deep bits so be warned to make sure of your line before you charge on in) just be sure you drive to both your own and your trucks ability and it'll be a sweet day out.
Feel free to post up any comments ideas
Cheers
Jas

I think you will find that is private land and a no go area but not 100% sure I will look back on the Waipara Land tread to see if its in there

yes that area is a no go zone

we should find a spot were the trees have a good over hang for a little shade.
i know the gorge is a touchie spot but if we all go in for only the bbq, Clean up

then leave we should be ok

Yes it is private land, the whole "Horseshoe" bit is on pvte land, just bypass it as there will be those who are against us using the river area watching like hawks.
Have a fun trip.

Should be able to make the Sunday. There should be a few alright spots for a feed just after one of the bridges. Been a year or so since I was down there but I remember driving past a decent group of people chowing down by a bridge. Plenty of room on the beach to.

OK so the Waipara on Sunday is the call. How bout we meet at Pukeko Junction (i think thats what its called?? Its the Cafe/shop on the L/H side of the main road at Leithfield) at 9.30 on Sunday morning. Depart 9.45 and head up to Stringers bridge, drop into the river there and head down to the beach. Stopping somewhere along the way for lunch.

I dont know if ill make it guys. Am waiting on my rated tow hooks and shackles they ordered but not arrived yet and my truck seems to love getting stuck in the river bed. If the dude who pull me out on new years day is a member. Thanks dude u rule, I had no idea how i was gonna get outta there.
Also found that there is a hole in the drivers foot well. (was wondering why my feet were getting cold

Just a reminder
I'm guessing that everyone will be self sufficient for lunch, BBQ etc.
As far as gear etc, Snorkles would be good but not essential. Tow hooks are a given really but if you want to come without them then thats your call, but don't guarantee that someone will be willing to hook up to your truck if you get stuck. this is a fairly easy trip with mainly shallow water crossings ( but does have deep bits so be warned to make sure of your line before you charge on in) and also some soft shingle. Just be sure you drive to both your own and your trucks ability and it'll be a sweet day out.
See You all on Sunday. Unless the heavens open and the river rises dramatically we will still be going if it rains (this is 4wding you know!!!

)
