fusible link?

Just trying to identify a wire running from the pos terminal (brown wire) to a connector then a red wire that goes to a fuse and then into the two relays (I think that is what they are) in the engine bay. it looks like it may break soon anyway.
Firstly is the wire there for engine use (can I remove it safely and the engine -16v efi - will still run).
Secondly are the relays there for the headlights and thats all? If so, I have no lights so they can come out and make room for the elleckky fan relay.
There should only be one relay I need to worry about (to the fuel pump) mounted on the ECU , Correct?
