Spooky. I have a guy coming to see the Mini tomorrow. If it goes I'm half seriously thinking about this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 070936.htmAs it's in Hamilton, do you know it XJ?

Mini gone, now on its way to the North Shore.
I guess I don't have to be tempted to consider an auto - happy for you. Having slept on the CJ3B it might be a bit hardcore for me. I like to take the roof off, but I like a heater for my tootsies while I do it.

before considering a cj of any description (dont get me wrong... i love the cj's) go for a drive up a bumpy hill in one, then do the same hill in a TJ.... then multiply it to a factor that encompasses an enitre days wheeling... then ask you kidneys how they might feel..... and your neck, and arse, and back....

I think I'll stick with a TJ.
Any reason to go newer than any given year? It has to be manual and I don't think I want to stretch to a 6-speed, but is there any other revision that happened earlier that might be worth looking for?

Im pretty sure that 97-02 they were much of a muchness. Stick to the NZ assembled ones, the Jap imports had dana 35 rear diffs, ours came with dana 44s.

That's a useful tip. Short of eyeballing the diff is there any way to tell from pictures of the whole thing, or is it just a case of looking for NZ new ones?
I thought I might have found one just listed today
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 549170.htm but apparently it now has chrome wheels. Call me shallow, but I detest chrome wheels, especially on a 4x4 and wrapped in 33" rubber, so I won't be pushing what I was looking to spend for that one after all. Shame as it looked the mutts with the wheels in black.

the bushwacker flares are rubbish in the bush and against banks. they crack and break like buggery, being plastic and non flexible.
cool colour though.

Another good tip. I take it the extra wide but stock looking ones are better if the extra width is needed?
Any way to tell a Jap import from pictures?
