Hey all, im a brand spanking newbie.I brought a 1983 BJ42 really nice condition completely standard with a 3.4L diesel and i was wondering what would some good mods to make. eg: lifts etc? Also what would be the cost to change the drum breaks to disc these days? considering i have hardly any mechanical knowledge :( heh....

welcome champ...

first things first.. PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!

great choice of rig guy.. i have one the same..

now, as for your questions.. whats your preferred use for this cruiser? club truck, rock crawler, weekend trips, bimble up rivers?

i ask as the intended purpose will dictate which way to go..

what ya should do is have decent recovery points (ie rated hooks(happy jerry?)) and then a nice set of tyres.. once ya got that, just wheel it till ya find what ya driving style preference is and which way ya wanna go.. ya could go balls out and mod the shit out of it but then if ya find ya the kind of guy that wants to rev it and have the burble of a v8 too, well, it'd be a waste of ya time and money huh?

do a couple of trips, see what ya needs are and do mods to meet them..

p.s.. photos..

pps.. mods to do to the cruiser could be power steering conversion, $400ish for 60 series front disc brakes, shackle reversal and spring flip, spring over axle conversion.. after that ya could start playin with the flex of ya leaf packs by adding and subtracting a leaf here or there.. 8)

hey thanks for the reply. I just brought it because of the look, looks like a tank. certainly handles good offroad :) .
Just really want it for weekend trips and on some ruff tracks. It came with a rated hook on the front and also has one massive one at the back, massive Shackle in it. here is a photo, all i have at the mo.

welcome mate.

being an 83 it should allready have disk breaks on the front?? bit strange if it hasnt.

my advice if your just into doing some weekend stuff now and then is throw a set of 33" MTR good year tyres on it and go have fun....

or you could end up like me or nibs and end up going a little overboard
