dead rocky (f300)

Post by 2roky »

i've finally manage to kill or nearly kill) a daihatsu motor,

i bought 2nd rocky (142 000km on the clock) after writing my old one off, it had a stuffed motor which i didnt no about till my olds got it home for me (told them to have a look at it and if it was all good bring it home) last time i'll be doing that..... it turned out that it had a collapsed piston in number 3

i got the truck home and found it had a stuffed motor (didnt know what it was at that time) so out came that motor and the old one from the 1st rocky went in in its place, this is where the fun started, it wouldnt rev over 3grand, turned out that the distributor was very loose ( mate had taken it off to check and not tightened the bolts up, could see it moving wen the motor was at a idle,

the wrong intake manifold gasket was put on again by my mate (not sure why it even needed to come off in the 1st place) it blew out and was pumping oil out of it. fixed it by making new gasket up lot cheaper to make one than to by one.

the next issue was another bad oil leak, took a while to find it and figure it out but it was coming out of the distributor breather. what had happened was when the distributor was loose it slogged the bearing on the drive spline out allowing oil to be forced past it to fill the distributor cap till it would flow out the breather ( spare distributor was fitted and problem solved)

final bit of fun was and is the rings have gone and there is very low compression in number 3 this motor has done around 380000km and never missed a beat till now, it hasent been serviced nearly as often as it should have has been driven hard/ thrashed and run reasonable low on oil earlier in its life.

so thats it as far as im concerned its shagged, and i decided to quit it and now have a 1996 swb toyota prado rs model instead
