Taranaki Daily News | Tuesday, 27 January 2009
Stealing a car proved too difficult for a gang of New Plymouth teenagers yesterday.
Police acting Senior Sergeant Kayanna Holley said a Land Rover was found in the middle of Devon St West, New Plymouth, about 4.25am.
A 15-year-old boy, who was drunk, was located nearby and arrested.
Police are still hunting his four accomplices.
Ms Holley said it appeared the group had got into the vehicle and coasted down Devon St West, between Liardet and Currie streets, but could not get it to start.
The boy appeared in New Plymouth's Youth Court before Justice of the Peace Alex Matheson yesterday charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle. Mr Matheson remanded the boy, on bail, to reappear in court on February 11.
