17th December
At the 4WD Stuff shed...
in Christchurch

Hopefully the MU will be done, and after the BBQ we can bugger off down the river for some playtime... :)

Last years event was a Major success with Mike and I attending... yup, 2! people. This year I'm going for double or nothing! :)

Mike, would be most excellent if you could wangle it to be here... you're the star of the show and all... and anyone else that can make it.

RSVP to me via PM and I'll keep everyone posted.

Cheers

Steve

Actually, I think I was paying rent at that point Mike - and you were there... but far too busy bending my good ball joint puller with the rattle gun on Grunters truck to do much more than order sausages from the grill :)

Oh, and Mike - I never quite got around to taking the BBQ home after that event... so it will be there... presumably still with gas - better check that...

Yeah, the shed has been around a bit... and it will be someone elses turn soon, as I'm building my own shed... so this will be the last christmas party down there...

Tim - if you bring Speights, make sure you get there early so we can drink it all before the vultures show up :) No point wasting good beer on everyone else :P

Great that you can make it Mike... see you there.

I'm figuring a 10:30-11ish start? BBQ lunch then playtime in the afternoon?

I've been to anti-natal classes... they're over-rated. Bring her along and we can induce early labour in the afteroon using the time-honoured and traditional "bouncing down the riverbed" method :P

Steve

PS: We'll be thinking of you sitting on your shed Heath... we'll have a beer for you :)

Its an open invite to offroadexpress.co.nz members. Good idea re: the food - bring something to throw on the BBQ - might need a couple of 3- or 4-burners going to keep the food flowing... does anyone else have one they can bring down to help cook?

Cheers

Steve

PS: No-one bring salad... I don't wanna see salad. IF you bring salad, disguise it as a sausage :)

Ok, update on the BBQ. At this point I need to get numbers because I suspect we might have a few too many people to cram into my wee shed. There is a great place for BBQs just around the corner - at Spencer Park - so we might adjourn to there for the festivities. Can I get a show of hands as to who wants to go so I can organise something?

If its wet, then the whole thing is going to go to the dogs :P I haven't really got a contingency plan for that... I'm just hopin for sunny days :)

To get to the shed - if you drive up Marshland Rd from town heading towards Kaiapoi then keep going until you go over the railway line at the top end just beside Chaneys Corner (big buildings with Blackett Engineering and a kitchen place among others) and turn right - that should be Spencerville Rd. Follow it for about 5km through the countryside and eventually it goes over a one-lane bridge then shortly after ends in a T-intersection. At the intersection turn left, then its the first driveway on the left - #373 on the mailbox. The shed is the first building up the driveway (its a farm property).

If we go to Spencer park then turn right instead of left at the intersection, then its the second left (signposted) - over three judder bars then second right (first right takes you into the camp ground, second into the park).

If people think they might get lost then arrange a meeting near the palms or somewhere like that and convoy out there.

Also, had one offer from redneck of a BBQ, and mine... which might be enough but one more would be good for safety... I'd hate for someone to have to wait for a sausage :)

If you could bring your own meat and beer/drink - just be aware that we're going out 4WDing afterwards and I'll play big bad policeman at give anyone who drinks too much then thinks they can drive the bash :) Be sensible, or else... No point giving the anti-SUV nutcases any more ammunition...

My MU should be ready, but it won't have had any offroad trials, so I'm thinking the Waimak will be the best option for me - I don't want to go too far on it until I've proven it... and I figure if it breaks then at least the Waimak is close enough to tow it back to the shed :) Anyone have any objections to the 4WDing being there?

Ok, so a show of hands: whos coming?

Ok, pretty sure we're gonna have it at Spencer Park... and since theres a cool space and playground there it would be a good family thing I think.

Anyone object to it being a family day? Seems like a good idea to me.

Its not mandatory to bring your family of course :)

Cheers
