If its the same as the later GU head, then no, they are different. Mine has an oil squirter in the head for cams(?) so I couldn't use the non turbo head, which was cheap as chips, yours may be different?

I think the 2.8 in something this heavy is the worst thing Nissan could have done (apart from the 3.0 grenade that is).
Mine is absolute crap off road compared to the 4.2, on road its average, and uses a lot more fuel than the 4.2 which is why I have another GQ as my project vehicle.
The GU will eventually get an RB30 turbo put in, but thats on the backburner until the GQ is finished now

yep they are a pig of a motor, would love to do a 4.2 conversion but i may just have to fix the 2.8 up for the moment . just been reading some of your previous posts on your head issues. i dont know whats worse, the 2.8 or the 3.0

i havent taken mine off road yet and on road you have to ring its neck to get anywhere. nissan definately made a big cock up putting this motor in a safari

rb30 turbo would be cool. is it a bolt in job

The RB30 is more work in the GQ as the pump isnt electronic, but the motor bolts straight up to the box etc, heres a guy in oz that did the RB25, then RB30:

Its common for the gaskets to go on the RD's and heads if the problem is not picked up soon enough
