got a problem with my brakes looking for help/advice......
when i push the pedal down sometimes the brakes are good and others shocking and feels like it wont stop. very firm pedal always, never spongy, i have bled the brakes tonight with only a very small amount of air coming out, made no difference. took the vacuum pipe off the servo and vacuum is fine. rotors and pads all seem good.
so any ideas please??

Re: dodgy brakes on safari GQ SWB
or you can pull the alternator off and get it reconditioned by a autosparky
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

Re: dodgy brakes on safari GQ SWB
If not that I had the exact same symtoms but I also had brake fluid leaking out of the master cylinder. Master cylinder needed reboring and sleved with new seals, Brakes are really good now even with 35s.

Re: dodgy brakes on safari GQ SWB
thankyou guys
well i think i will try the vacuum part on the rear of the alternator first, found a used one a mate had for $150, wreckers wanted $350
which i am struggling to believe. what a pack of total theives
i cant see any leaks, but its becomming a more frequent occurance, when i start the truck the brake pedal doesnt go down very much so would indicate a vacuum problem, however the suck on the vacuum pipe seems good?? the brakes are nowhere near as good as my everyday safari.

Re: dodgy brakes on safari GQ SWB
pr you were right, thanks for that........ i rang the previous owner today and he said the brakes went a bit odd when he put the new alternator on, when he asked at the auto sparks they said its nothing to do with it... to cut a long story short there are 2 different types of vacuum pump, a big one and small one i had the small one on, changed it today and the brakes are the same as my other truck now. there is a clear difference in physical size of the pump, small is 30mm width and big one is 50mm.
