It all strarted with Curly12 breaking down in McD's (lower hutt) drive through on Friday! hahaha he didn't even get his toy!

(Friday) Took William's new (old) POS over the Masterton (area) and that was a comedy of errors from the start! After one flat tyre, one broken strop and a quick tea stop we managed to get there at 10:30.. not bad considering that we started loading the thing up at 6:30! back home by 1am..... (bloody thing has two hand breaks... not easy to tow with one of them on...

(Saturday) Picked up Jerry's new body... no for the truck not his head.... pic's will be up latter...

Now for the next mission.. PR's welder to the freight company! will be there by tomorrow PR (if you read this)

Changed front pinion seal. During the process, aftert aking off the yoke nut... a funny smell followed.... the smell of rotten oil. Popped the front diff cover off and was met by a slow moving, nearly gelatinous mess of brown oily stuff, which probably wasn't doing too much good for the locker.Tidied everything up and replaced with nice clean gear oil.

also figured thast while i was there that i may as well fit my replacement upper front control arms.... stock versions with some reinforcing added. After much cussing and a little bit of blod spilt, i have decided that the clown that designed the "locking tab" was nothing short of an in bred, 6 fingered, banjo playing 'tard. Why they didnt just do like the rest of the world does and put a bolt through and flick a nut on the threaded end i just dunno.... "It's a (farking screwed up) Jeep Thing". The only way to get the bloody thing off was to take the blade out of a hacksaw and suffer cramp while trying to saw through the bolt, then bang the bolt out.

These two jobs took the better part of 7 hours...... we are not amused.

Still yet to remove the yoke from the transfer case output (sye) and repalce the seal and the little rubber washer at the end of the yoke. When going uphill the atf finds its way up the thread, passed the yoke and spins out of the yoke nut all over the underside of the wagon, including the exhaust...........

................. wheres my noose...................

You are supposed to put a little bit of gasket sealer on the spline inside the yoke before fitting it on the back of the transfer case. Also to the back of the yoke nut. At least that is what the instructions were on my SYE. No leaks yet, after driving for over a year now. ATF is very thin (particularly when hot), so it can go past a very slim margin of error between machining.

PS: Have you changed your job? Sent a text to your work phone and got an interesting reply!!

021475822... new job back in June. One of my old staff now have my old phone, he's a cheeky bugger

Apparently the little rubber star washer in behind the yoke fails, and this is the exact thing that happens. Ill be replacing the pinion seal, the rubber star washer (got them all here as spares) and gasket sealing the whole deal. Did it all right the first time too, but i guess just not efficiently enough.

Mine never came with a star washer. Must be a slightly different design for the yoke.

Worked today, then swapped the 30" muds off the 5-door when I got home. Replaced with the factory road-wheels and I really hate the way it looks now!

Still got to swap out the front diff in the yellow beast and try to get the rt/front suspension shoved somewhere back towards where it's supposed to be, plus fit guard flares to the piglet. Tomorrow will probably not be productive though, as I have to take daughter No.2 into town for some driving practice before her test on Tuesday.

Managed to stuff the auto in the Wamak river and had a tyre come off rim while I was stuck in water over my stomach in the cab. Lucky was with a good mate with a good truck to help me get out of the shit. I think a recovery group would be a good back up resource. We both had reasonably set up trucks but when shit goes bad it goes real bad. Well that was my achievment. Hopefully wiser for it.
