1UZ + auto transmission

Okay so this has popped up here and there over this forum but I can't seem to find the information that I want.
I want to put a 1UZ into a project truck and I want to try it with an automatic transmission because I know that I wont be able to control myself with the whole '6000+rpm clutch drop' that my diff locks and CVs just love..
Now I know theres quite a few Landcruiser autos that can be adapted to the 1UZ but I'm curious if there are other options, such as a factory Surf auto or mating a transfer case to a 1UZ factory auto.
Which is stronger, pros and cons etc etc... I realise anything Surf will most likely involve electronics but that can be worked into my favour in terms of a 'tiptronic' type setup. Jafa started developing an adaptor for the factory 1UZ auto but that is a lot way from being finished and available for production.
Any input would be appreciated, I've found a lot of stuff here and there but it all gets messy - lets sort it out
Cheers
