dodgy heater fan
dodgy heater fan
has anyone had any trouble with the fan in the heater of there hiluxes or surfs? it only works on full speed and none of the others. have checked fuses, relays and cleaned contacts on the switch and cleaned and greased the fan motor, still no joy. any ideas anyone?
Mine works only on high or low and not in between.
The resister pack (I think) are in the passenger side of the dash behind the glove box. Chances are they are like mine and have burnt out or the coils have collapsed. I looked for another one but second hand they all seem the same and three speeds seem to be fairy rare (for some reason). Not sure if a 4 speed will work (obviously at trhee settings only) but I just got used to it. My biggest hassle is the cable for switching the temperature is knackered and so I have to set the temp with the bonnet up. Haven't been able to find a replacement yet either (not looking hard though), but its on the "LIST".

Yes, very common for the resistor pack to go. Lie on the floor of the passenger side and look on the heater box under the dash for a 3 or 4-wire connector into a small squarish plastic block with one screw holding it in - its quite easy to spot. remove the screw and pull it out.
The older three-speed ones are not interchangeable with the newer 4-speed ones... been there, tried that.
They are not easily repairable (I've had no joy at all) - so price one at your local Toymota branch - I think they are about $30.
As for the often-broken blue cable for heat adjustment - I think I have a spare one of those in the shed somewhere... somewhere
... If I find it then I'll swap it for beer vouchers

Yes the mighty heater resistor. I had the same problem. Got bored one day so played round with some old resistors from a dick smiths set i had as a kid and speaker wire and have got 4 speeds again. low and med are fairly similar though. You get used to it after a while. If all else fails open/shut window lol
