I dont usually do much work on my truck let alone start these threads

Had problems with my top kingpin studs coming loose since I pushed my rim offset out about 75mm per side, managed to catch the passenger side before the steering arm fell off but had a broken stud to get out. The farking ezi-out broke in the stud of course and then after getting the broken bit out of course I ended up drilling right through the stud with a bigger drill bit filling the swivel housing with metal filings so after getting the broken stud out I thought I may as well pull the whole swivel housing down and clean all the nasty bits out and stick in one of the longfields thats been sitting in the shed for past 9 months. So the kingpin and studs are all sorted, passenger side longfields in and the swivel housings cleaned and re-greased so I might stick the other long in next year

seeing as you started early ill jump in as well

pulled the sump and oil pick up off and removed the fuel pump ready for the new parts, have had a gated large capacity sump sitting under my bench for a while now so thought it was about time i put it on and the fuel pump had a bent fitting which when i tried to streighten it started leaking so managed to get my hands on a holley one for cheap which has the fittings on the side so will be better for my set up, checked the big ends while i have it all off and they look mint even tho the cranks been ground 0.030" and the bores and pistons look mint as well so thats cool. will hopefully be fitting all the new bits tomorrow so will take a few pics and throw them up

ohh and i fitted my 4 point harnesses as well

and i think i fixed the shimmy that i had at 60kph which i thought was a buggered front controll arm bush...turns out that i hadnt tightened that bolt very well

Removed gearbox/tranny case from safari, and fitted new clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing, by myself under the truck on my back with 2 trolly jacks. (What a mission, and I can tell you that.......a Safari gearbox/tranny case weighs about the same as a Suzuki Vitara!!!!).

And have just fitted new lower A arm suspension joints on both sides of my Hilux.

blew the center out of the clutch last night ... so now it had a new chromally 2800 pound cover (wait till you try the new clutch peddle pete ) and a 5 puck ...on the way home the driveshaft then desided to spit out all the needle rollers ... so ripped that out and off to get some new uj's tomorrow morning and fit them up
also found that my front diff pinon has about 5mm of thrust movement and about the same everywhere else....why...someon had put the uj's in unligned and its punded the bearring into submisson... will fix that next week...perhaps wheni fit the lsd i build up for it today
2 extra plate + friction plate per side and a uprated springe with a secondry spring fitted inside
(double valve spring style ... ) results in a 145 ft breakaway ... so should be fine for the front while i sort the locker for the rear
have also got 4 meters of roll cage tube the is probably going to end up been my new front bumper
also found my sterring is touching my leaf spring u bolt... so need to sort that as well

man what a list

Got a WOF on the yellow 'scud with no sway-bar, but the muds came off and the little roller-skate road-tyres off the 5-door went on for a couple of hours. They make it the dorkiest looking 'scud out there, it was embarassing driving it.

Oh well, new sticker on the screen, 31's back on. Now to finish getting the other truck certed.

Just went out and pulled the broken diff apart. The first front diff I've done in the 'scud in two years of pretty hard abuse, and turns out it wasn't the housing that failed!

I found I'd lunched the ring & pinion, which had punched the small hole out the bottom of the alloy housing.

Outside housing:

Inside housing:

Pinion:

Ring gear:

Spare bits swimming around inside:

What is likely to have caused this?

Started taking apart my wiring and got it all stripped out now.

And these twist and tapes were absolutely everywhere.

All cleaned out and ready for me to everything back tomorrow.

I could slap the person that wired all this up! And apparently it was an autosparky

Oh yeah and does anyone know if you can buy female spade crimps with a little tab on the back so they click into my relay bases?

So far this weekend -

- Drained 4 ltrs of grey sludge out of front and rear diffs to bring it back down to filler level. :(
- Replaced a bolt that obviously fell out of the winch bar.
- Replace a bolt that was loose from the highlift jack mount.
- Drained water from both headlights and one spotlight.
- Playing around with the locker which seems to be faulty again!

Yes it was a great trip last Sunday :D , but having to sort things out again how! At least the carpets have dried over the week :)

Yesterday went for a strop on a farm out Raglan way. Had fun with some little (slippery) hill climbs and generally made a mess of some swamps with some two wheel drive drags and a couple of tug-o-wars. The weather wasnt the best, but fun was still had.

Sounds like everyones been busy this weekend!!!!!!!

Between thursday and today, with Waynes help:

Cut top front radius arm mount off the chassis, plated and rewelded stronger

Cut engine cradle/engine mount support member out, re-moved sump and fitted larger capacity gated and baffeled sump, extended oil pump pick up and Felpro rubber sump gasket.

Refitted engine cradle/engine mount support member with a boltable flange thingy on it, so it doesn't need to be cut out if i need to visit inside the sump in the future.

Rewired more of the electrical system, managed to get the big 2000kva battery cable to reach the solenoid pack for the winch, fitted a VSR to the charging system and seperated the battery's so they don't run in paralelle anymore.

Checked wheel bearings and suspension joints, greased steering and drive shafts and found a couple more things that could do with some TLC.

Been a busy month getting ready for the winch challenge, i'm almost starting to get sick of working on the truck, i just wanna go do skids!!!!!!!
